82% percent is fine for a critic score. Given this is a anime adaptation and anime fans would abuse of audience score if it wasn't great I would say its doing great.

94% from audiences is great and 82% from critics is impressive.

Yeah I saw this topic and was expecting it to be like 40%.

I was apparently in the minority who liked cowboy bebop. Still gonna check this one out. I read the manga for most of shonen jumps first year publishing here in the states.

I am assuming the score was lower when Vegy made the topic three hours ago. Honestly it it stays in the 70s or 80s then that's good.

IGN gave it a 6/10 because it's too similar to the anime/manga.

I tried watching the first episode last night and it was pretty rough. Like super cringe seeing a live version of a 1:1 shot of the anime essentially. Luffy doesnt not translate well outside of anime universe. The set pieces and costumes all look like Im was watching them on stage too. Pretty cheap looking.

It def isn't 1:1 lol, you clearly saw some fan made video or something lol

The first episode was essentially a 1:1 to the first few episodes of the anime. I just started watching the anime recently lol. Im going to give the live version another shot and hope I can adjust to seeing a real person act like a cartoon

The shows high budget clearly shows.

Yea dis, Oda chose his team right. Matt Owens(a die hard OP fan) stayed true to his promise, he delivered HARD

Watched the first two episodes with my girlfriend yesterday and they where surprisingly good. The acting is a little stilted in places and that can either add to the show's comedy or cringe depending on how you view things. Personally we where laughing, which I think is one of the most important parts of One Piece. The jokes land, the crew's got heart, and the set design and costuming are 100% on point.

I'm not 100% satisficed with Orange Town / Buggy though. I don't think anyone would sit there and say "Yeah, Orange Town was my favorite", but the scene with Luffy and the Dog didn't make it and they completely avoided the dancing lion and Zoro managed to cut Buggy. Not even Mihawk could cut Buggy (at least not in a casual fight). These are like, nitpicks ultimately, but it felt really jarring for so much of the show to get everything right and then the whole Buggy arc goes and spends time spoiling his connection to Shanks and having everyone be locked up for most of the episode, and that time spent locked up could have had the crew exploring the wreckage of Orange Town to get in some of those scenes that got cut.

But yeah the exclusion of the dumb lion has me worried like. What the hell are they gonna do for Chopper? If a funny dancing lion got cut for budget is Chopper just gonna be a regular deer or like, Danny DeVito in a fursuit?

Anyways I like it so far, but I get hung up on these small details that probably shouldn't matter. Looking forward to Syrup Village and God Usopp though.

Since it was the same episode they might have had to choose between the Lion or the Sea monster. Which yeah if they had to choose one or the other I worry what a fully CG Chopper would be like.

Though removing characters from the villain teams is a continual theme in this show as you will soon see. Every major crew is missing at least one important member. And less said about the Krieg Pirates the better. That gets into spoilers that you should experience yourself.

Didn't like Syrup Village. No Django? Why are Koby and Helmeppo here? I mean, I know the reason. It's because TV needs an A and a B plot. But Oda has already done that. You could accomplish A and B by having Luffy, Nami, and Zoro hit up the town and Usopp and Kaya's story unfold in parallel. Also LMAO Zoro backstory being arbitrarily dumped here and taking up Usopp's screen time. because they decided to not do it earlier when they had the opportunity to because they where wasting time on Koby and Helmeppo still.

Once again, loving the actors, the costuming, and the sets. Less in love with the uh, directorial choices I guess. If this trend continues I might give somewhere in the ballpark of like, 6/10.

syrup village was da weakest arc for sure, but overall it was a great journey

Kuro was fucking boss tho (hats off to the actor) and I liked the minions
