is dragon ball gt the perfect example of a sequel doing literally everything right?

Clearly not or it would have been more well liked.

I thought it was trash. Then Super came out and everyone was raving about it, and watching it made me realize gt wasn't too bad and it actually had some pretty decent highs through fights, stories and character development.

GT > Super

It is the perfect example of excellent story ideas being made awful by shitty writing.

Except episodes 1-13 and super 17. Those are the perfect examples of awful ideas being made even worse by shitty writing.

I mean, you're entitled to that opinion, but personally I can't think of a better closer for the series than the shadow dragons, as a concept. Everything tying back to the dragonballs and how they were abused to avoid consequences is pretty damn cool.

Tge dragons themselves sucked ass, but thar goes back to the whole "execution" bit. He'll, with seven of them, it would have been nice to split them among the cast, to give everyone a proper send-off. Goku takes the big one, vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo get one, gotenks, uub and pan, and maybe have the humans all gang up on one for one last hurrah.

Tbh that's the only bit I'll go to bat for. Pers9nally I hate Baby. but apparently a lot if people like him and his plot, even if they don't like the character himself, so I'm 8ncl7ding him for them.

...honestly, I hate the ssj4 design. And I realize that I'm basically the only one who does.

Gonna be a very, very strong disagree from me. The strongest of disagree. That's what someone would write if they're trying to make Dragon Ball into something darker and edgier. Which, I guess in truth, describes a lot of GT from Baby onward.

GT couldn't even have cool fights. That's literally the only thing that matters about the entire series. The fights in GT just ended up being lame ass beam spam. Super at least managed to have some cool fights.

The shadow dragons was a good story line. Was nice seeing everyone's over reliance on the dragon balls come back to bite them in the ass. Meanwhile in DB Super, Bulma uses the dragon balls to look younger.

He got less pudgy and his limbs got better defined, to help the fights look better. But that's it.

Fun fact, the whole reason Toriyama aged him to an adult at all was for this same reason: if he was going to keep drawing better and better fights, he needed his protagonist to have adult sized limbs to work with.

wasn't there a scene in the 22nd budokai where they actually say he's gotten taller?

I haven't watched Super yet because I've been rewarching old Gundam series....but is Super that bad?

I did not like GT at all but I figured I'd give Super a chance once day.

Watch the two "Z" movies for a decent introduction. The story gets pretty bad and non sensible. I mean, it takes place during Z. Most hype is a letdown, too. I don't think that's a spoiler, but there's so many transformations.

There's way more then two Z movies and half of them are before transformations were a thing or there was only one until the last handful.

It's like when wrestling says somebody is over 7 feet tall, but then you see them next to the 6'2" guy and they're clearly only a few inches taller.

It has a good Spanish intro

I kind of liked that GT hearkened back to the OG Dragon Ball days and was a series of episodic adventures rather than (at least initially) jumping from arc to arc. Super honestly feels like a parody at this point.

Not enough lines.... there are not enough lines to try and explain how Goku Black came to be. Lets face it, truth be told both shows do some things better than the other. GT had a couple better minor villains in Ledgic, Rilldo and some of the Shenrons. Super does major villains better outside of Goku Black. Both had ridiculous ways of transforming to the next level. Super initially had the prayer circle, GT had the giant pair of pliers and blutz waves.

Neither does anything extremely better than the other, though personally I think Vegeta is a much better character in GT.

I also kind of want to point something out when comparing GT to Super. You can only compare GT to Super for the first 64 episodes. Past that, Super only gets the advantage thanks to it having more episodes. The 64th episode of Super is Vegeta vs Goku Black, so not really a good episode to end off on, considering the All Universes tournament happened afterwards.

GT does have cool fights, they are just few and far between. The Rilldo fight in GT is really good.

I shit on Super a lot but c'mon GT's animation is far worse, Super legit has some of the peaks of the franchise in animation, and the latter half actually looks pretty consistently good for a weekly show

It also has some of the worst animations in the franchise, or are we suddenly forgetting the time the art department decided to hire people straight out of college. They had to fix it on the Blu-Ray versions.

Comparing Super to GT is like picking a favorite turd, but GT just looks drab and has miserable fighting and choreography. Super has way better fights, but of course both series pale in comparison to Z or OG DB.

GT actually had a lot of great ideas, but was poorly executed.

either way:
GT sucked and was visually very boring, but I'll give it credit for actually moving forward in time and trying(?) to give the franchise an ending
Super sucks and had poor visuals early on that got better, and it actually brought on some hype, but at the end of the day it really feels like reanimating a corpse

I think I "prefer" Super overall but.......yeah no point in really debating which is better when both are bad

Yeah, the first couple of arcs are pretty rough. But then you get some of the best animation in the franchise later on, especially during the key fights of the Tournament of Power.

I have never watched GT but, I can respect way more than I can respect Super. GT actually tried to be a faithful sequel that takes place after the ending of Z. It was just bad. Super ripped up the ending of Z and acts like it didn't happen. Then it shits all over the established lore of Dragonball/Z with retcons to suit whatever thing happens at the moment. Also the massive god-tier power boosts every character is gets with no explanation is just awful.

GT is consistently more entertaining than Super and has a much nicer ending, but Super peaks higher than GT ever does (specifically with the Future Trunks saga)

For me its the Multiverse tournament, not Future Trunks arc. I'm really not a fan of the Future Trunks arc. Considering that the arc leading up to that was the restoration of U6s Earth, I had thought they would have done something with that. Maybe have that be the introduction of Broly who is from U6 rather than U7 in this timeline, playing on how Goku was sent to U7s Earth, Broly was sent to U6s Earth. Instead, hot tub time machine lol. "I jumped dimensions and timelines to take my revenge against you Son Goku!!" instead it should have been a simple "We resurrected U6s Earth while it still has that massive Civil war going. Please stop it before our Earth is destroyed again".
