I have a KALLAX like object arriving on my doorstep today for vinyl storage. They at least have a video on how to assemble it, seems pretty simple.

The most blasphemous thing I ever put together though was a corner desk with cabinets up top, took like 4 hours.

I usually do something stupid like flipping a door upside down or putting a panel on backwards.

Kallax is really easy.

It's also the best vinyl storage there is (outside of expensive custom made).

But it's a good idea to brace the unit, especially if it is more than 2 cubes high. Added bonus: it stops your records sliding over the back of the shelf.

Actual IKEA furniture, eh, I'm no rocket engineer.

It is insanely easy so there is no reason anyone should have an issue with it. It can take a while though.

Its so easy lol Im surprised that there are people who arent good at it. Literally just follow the instructions.

Tip: you should tighten them once a year.

It's basically the same dimensions as the KALLAX from what I can tell comparing the two that are the same 8 cubes with 2 at the base. I just went with this because it was solid black like everything else in my spare room so hopefully it works out. KALLAX weirdly only offers theirs in a brownish black.

I'm going to wall-mount my guitar as well because it's in the space where I'm putting the new shelving.

Elmer's Wood Glue is amazing.

10000% stronger than nails or screws.

edit: i think gorilla also makes one? Just get a name-brand.

If you are going to stand that vertically and fill it with vinyl, you really need to do a bit of modification.

fuck no. it's one of my biggest blind spots. putting stuff together. unless theres a completely 1:1 video with the EXACT model and everything is perfectly aligned (which is almost never is because as things evolve, sometimes teeny tiny little parts change here and there but places don't swap out the instruction book)

ikea partners with this uber-for-ikea company where you can straight up pay someone to do it. absolute godsend for me.

i am just useless with stuff like that. the pictures suck, the labeling sucks, everything about my ability to interpret picture instructions suck.

Yeh its fun, even helped my partner set up an IKEA kitchen somewhat.

Alrho its not fun to do it with others involved sometimes.

No worries.

People forget how much vinyl weighs. 100 12" records can be 40-50 lbs.

On more than one occasion I've had to repair self-assembly furniture that came out of the box faulty.

Masterful. Order some pizzas or Chinese food and invite some friends (especially those who express any interest in liking puzzles). Serve beer after assembly.

This is the graduate school way.

I'm currently installing wall hanger for my basses. Or at least I will soon as I figure out the spacing.

Just built a dresser from IKEA like two days ago

I'm a solid 4 out of 4 in my lifetime from them. It really is so easy.
