cops suck , compared to if you make the statement that the majority of politicians or the majority of lawyers suck. Why is this, though?

I think theyre saying the cops who arent crooked are still guilty by association. The whole cops dont rat out other cops mentality is the true cancer in the whole organization.

yeah imo this does happen extremely frequently, don't rat out bad cops...etc.....

More people get upset when you say "a majority of cops suck" as opposed to "a majority of politicians suck" is become most people know someone that's actually a cop, and they assume that they are one of the "good ones", so they take it more personal.

You're basically telling them that their friend/relative/spouse is a bad person, whereas most politician are relative strangers to the average person.

yeah this could be true

a plurality, if not a majority of Americans hate approximately half the politicians.

Far more people have had good experiences with cops than with laywers or politicians, even in places like America with a disproportionately high number of shitty cops. This is even more the case in places where the cops aren't generally shitty.

Politicians are far away. They're removed from our day to day lives. Most people don't know even a local politician, much less anyone bigger.

Cops are everywhere. You can see a half dozen of them on your way to work any given morning. Even if you don't know them personally, there's something humanizing about them just existing in the same space as you.

Doesn't change the rot intrinsic to their system, though. Qualified immunity, gang-like loyalty, racist practices, and their roots that can be traced in a direct line back to the old slave catcher units. To say nothing of the police unions which, and I say this as a big supporter of workers unions in general, act with outright fear and contempt for the general population.

Lots of people owe their property or life to a cop. Conversely, you only ever here about politicians making things worse.
