The end of August/beginning of September is right around the peak of hurricane season.

Hurricane season starts in June but we usually see hurricanes around October around here. Its still "this" time of year and although my state votes red doesn't mean I do. Fuck these people. I just hate having to sweat it out when our electricity goes out and then there's people south of us who have the worst of it and might die.

It has a similar track to Hermine which flooded Cedar Key. There was also Michael which went straight north. Michael will always stand out because a aquantince went to the panhandle to help out his son. He took a break to drive his motorcycle and lost control and hit a semi straight on. I saw him one weekend and said see you next and he was gone by the next weekend. Shame he was a cool dude

My college is closed for Tuesday and Wednesday, and since it floods at the slightest bit of rain, I suspect it'll be closed Thursday as well.

Otherwise, I was all stocked up weeks ago from my Sams run anyway.

I get that I just dont like people making it out to be just red voters in Florida when there is plenty of blue voters like myself that are doing their jobs at the polls. Its just unfortunate that we are outnumbered and the dem party here is a joke. Rick Scott ffs is uniquely vulnerable and up for re-election next year and last I checked they dont have anyone viable to run against him

Man, I lived in Louisiana (1988-2012) and I dont miss this. Ill never forget the panic in the stores and seeing empty shelves and lines for the gas stations miles long. Things got insane during Katrina (I was in Baton Rouge). We had to protect our home from people trying to break in. Constantly patrolling the property with a gun because the police and national guard were busy. They would literally tell you to just shoot people like that if you could. Thankfully we didnt have to.

I have the link to the news story somewhere. I always thought he would be alive today if it had gone elsewhere. He had to be 60+ lived most of his life have children and grandchildren, a home, a wife and a good job. Just like that gone. His wife took it hard. I told her I was so sorry and he was a good dude. Never take a minute of your life for granted. It can end just like that.

Florida's is normally June thru October. We had one in Nov last year iirc but that's rare.

The more immediate concern may be their tendency to slash programs that would normally help people affected by disasters like hurricanes.

Im in South Georgia and it looks like we Willa kid the worst of it. All the tornado threats are to the east of the Storm along with all the heavy winds. It looks like we can get Cat 2 winds while the east can get Cat 4 at the same time. Well more like Cat 1 while the east gets Cat 3 when it moves inland.

Very fortunate for us. Things could have got real bad for us if the storm made landfall farther west

Looked like it reached cat 4 just before landfall in Perry Florida. Lots of flooding but havnt seem much damage yet.

My eldest niece lives in Florida but I'm not sure where. I just texted my sister if she's heard anything from her, but she texted back that she commented on Facebook recently but nothing regarding the hurricane.

I was very lucky. I was just outside of range of the heavy hurricane winds. I just got Tropical Storm winds. The hard right turn at last second really was a benefit to us. Of course, a benefit to us was a determinate to others

Big bend to Lake City got hardest hit. Anywhere else got some wind and a small bit of rain if you were on the east coast
