My wife's brother is about to have their first child, we want to send them a care package, but they just keep saying they only need diapers and have everything else.

What are some things that you figured out you needed after the baby was born, but you didn't really think about before? Surely there are things they are missing and aren't thinking of, besides clothes and whatnot.

real talk though if you want to get them something fun, a toy or bedtime book that will be more appropriate for the child in six months to a year, but small enough that can easily be put away until then. Lotta folks get caught up on the baby fever and between personal shopping and gifts you are inundated with three times what you need of toys, diapers, and clothing for the first 6 months of physical development and then suddenly wonder how you don't have shit.

Thats smart, I'm guessing most of what they do have is newborn to a month or two. What about something like a night light projector that plays music or something?

A baby bath and room thermometer.

Something like this:

A bit basic, but muslin squares are also really useful.

But when they are newborn, the needs are pretty simple. You just need more than you think possible of clothes, diapers, and formula milk/bottles if not breast feeding.
