After a game over. Just to really drive the point home and make the player feel emotional.

The more elaborate your own funeral, the more benefits you receive in your next attempt. If you decide to skip or do a half-hearted job, you will receive hardships when you continue making it easier for you to die again.

Drake of the 99 Dragons had this real annoying shit that anytime you died you would get berated by the "gods" on how much you suck before you can continue again lol.

Players who suck and die don't deserve funerals in the game. Just skip to the game devs pissing on the player's grave.

There should be a FPS where you get shot at and get PTSD.

Or set it in WW1 and you get shellshock.

Oregon Trail kinda does this. You have a tombstone set up when a member of the party dies. I think you even can choose what it says on it

You can choose the names of the characters. One of the joys of grade school computer class was going through Oregon Trails and coming across a grave that said

HERE LIES
POOPOO FACE

There should be different songs that play based on the type of death.
Like there's a short mumble rap about fall damage. There's a Spanish flamenco song about getting stunlocked by multiple small enemies. There's a techno dance track if you get propkilled by random debris.
You can't skip the song ever.
