Most aren't familiar with Darren Shan/cirque du freak though. That movie failed harder than an onion.

My nephew used to read Percy Jackson. I learned most of what I know from him. It sounds like it has way more interesting lore than Harry Potter

It's a solid series. The author also wrote a shorter series based on Egyptian gods and one based on Norse gods. The Norse mythology series was a little meh to me, but I also realize I am not the target audience. The Greek ones are the best.

read the first hour harry potters, lost interest during the wait between 4 and 5. movies were ok.

read the first circque du freak long ago, probably because it was in the classroom library or something. movie was forgettable though it introduced me to kristen schaal <3

never heard of percy jackson.

a series of unfortunate events was the only youth fiction series to make a lasting impression, though for whatever reason i failed to keep up with it past late 2002. long planed to pick the entire series up again at some point because i felt there was legitimate merit to the writing.

I only read the first two Percy Jackson's as an adult. I was definitely not the intended target for them at that age. They were okay for what they were.

It's a shame that Cirque du Freak movie was terrible because I loved the books... It's weird that it got an apparently successful manga adaptation though...

I also liked his other series, The Demonata but I never got the chance to finish it...

Yea. He told me about those. The most interesting thing to me is that there is a Roman god school too, and the gods of Greek/Roman are acknowledged to be the same deities, but they have 2 different personalities.

I loved the cirque du freak books. Read them all. That series got weird, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Cirque Du Freak was one of the series that got me into reading as a hobby, along with The Dark Tower.

I never saw the Darren Shan movies but I enjoyed the books. The Demonata series was better though.

Yeah, it leads to some interesting scenarios. Like one of the main demi-gods is a daughter of Athena. The Roman version of Athena is Minerva who's basically the goddess of arts and crafts, totally taking the wisdom and war aspects away. So when every one meets that character they're like, "Oh..." and they expect her to be useless (she's not).

Well I mean... said lore is literally based on already established and written Greek mythology so... it actually has a foundation to work off of. That would be like saying mcu is more interesting than star wars. While true its not exactly a fair fight because like star wars hp was conceived from scratch and wasn't adapting literally years and years worth of material that they could shape and improve how they want.
