I work in hardware retail, and my issues are these:
-People who get in the way of the cart you're scanning. Either the customer or their friends.
-People who stack heavy items on tiny shopping carts, either being unsafe or preventing you from reaching small items below.
-People who adjust the cart as you're scanning, risking a heavy item falling on your hands. Or, maybe the collaspe the child basket with your hand in it. I've gotten close to this too many times.

-Old people who complain about about checkout while spending money at self checkout.

It annoying how customers can get in their own way, at least at my store.

I don't want conversation. I want them to listen to basic instructions and be prepared at at least the most fundemental levels so they can take 20 seconds to pay instead of 2 minutes and so they don't obliviously pay for and leave with the wrong takeout order.

They don't even have their wallets out. They don't have their bill ready. They don't even know how much they owe. They can't figure out how to use the card machine even when they come EVERY DAY to the store. They ignore every question and fail to listen to basic instructions. They never catch any anomalies or mistakes I always have to fix every fucking little thing and baby them through everything. They have zero spatial awareness. They talk on the phone, turn away to talk to the rest of their party. Shut the fuck up and finish paying the bill there is a line.

Me "How was your food today?"

Them: "Yes"

So unintelligent and apathetic you can barely call them human.

Americans are so fucking lazy and entitled with the service industry that they abandon their dignity while trampling on everyone elses. Putting the slighest bit of effort in is above them I guess. But then they throw a fit when their imattentiveness causes an issue.

This is a food service and people recieve their bills BEFORE they come to the register.

The worst are the people in front of you while waiting in line at a restaurant and then when they finally get up to the counter they apparently have no idea what they want

You're a piece of crap. You're one of those customers nobody likes.

Yesterday at the bakery I brought the stuff I was buying to the cashier, then while she was ringing the stuff up, I went to return the shopping basket to the right place, moving maybe 6 feet away to do so. This was enough for the older guy behind me in line to move up to the counter like it was his turn. Like, dude, chill, I have to pay for my stuff.

TC you need a different job. that is literally what customer service is all about. you're there 8 hours or whatever your schedule is and doesn't really matter if you cash out 1000 people or just 1. you get paid the same unless you get tips.

Yeah, it annoys me when I see stuff like Cool Whip and orange juice sitting in the freezer section. I'm like, "Don't you nitwits have a fridge at home?". What I do is that I do a final mental checkdown of what I have in my cart. If I decide I don't want something, I actually go back to where I found it and put it back there. If it gives workers a couple of minutes of not having to restock stuff at the end of the day, I'll do it.

Every time I go to a store, there's always somebody in line who acts like they've never used a credit/debit card before.

Do you guys seriously not try to keep track of the price? Doesn't need to be exact, but if I'm going in for Milk/ OJ/ Bread, I'm thinking 'This is probs 8 bucks, let me prepare my card or a 10$ bill'

Idk how to do most things and my anxiety makes following instructions tough

? I haven't seen refrigerated Cool Whip being sold since the early 90s.

With 3 items? Sure.

With 10+? No. I don't carry cash and I go into grocery stores expecting to be able to afford at least $100 worth, so why would I?

If you're going to do something like that, you might as well just order online where you can actively see your subtotal calculation

Especially if you have free shipping. Still gotta tip the driver though.
