I have all public (federal) student loans and payments go by income so they've been easily managed.

I remember calling once to see if I could get any kind of monthly deduction (private) around 20 years or so. They told me I didn't borrow enough to qualify for a 20 year repayment plan, only the 10 year plan I was on. Best they could do was change it from $600 due on the first of the month to $300 due on the first, and another $300 on the fifteenth. Gee, thanks, that will really help when I was only bringing home $500 total in a good month.
