I generally think so, if these women had other economic oppurtunities they most likely would have choosen something else. But I think more than harm, I think porn or sexual transactions are just a result of a disorderly society more than anything else, rather than that they harm society. If you had a perfectly orderly society you wouldn't have porn in the first place.

I mean if you used porn hub prior to them deleting millions of videos then you probably jerked it to underage porn at one point. And there is tons of exploitation and human trafficking going on especially with porn from those weird eastern European countries and some Asian countries. The porn industry is based and built on the exploitation of women.

anyways no I do not think Porn itself is harmful, an addiction to it of course can be very unhealthy.

the exploitation of woman in some countries is very bad though, so in that sense, it can be harmful or dangerous for the actress trying to become a porn star. I don't disagree with that , trying to be a porn star in the USA is very different compared to other countries.

Banning all porn is not going to stop that though. Making it illegal won't stop that.. So it's not the porn itself that is the problem. It's how countries operate within the context of Porn Stars.

There should be more laws to protect porn stars from exploitation and just alot more ways in general to protect porn stars because no matter what , there will always be people willing to do that. We need more ways to protect the actresses, not less.

I don't think the term expliotation really encompasses the fault here. If women had other economic oppurtunities, they probably wouldn't have to restort to porn or prostitution. Going down the road where you're engaged in sexual transaction means you've given up your sexual exclusivity because of economic pressures. I think in most normative cases, women tend to grow up and want to marry and start a family. When you hit 30, this reality hits deeper, as you realize that women of the past had primarily been mothers, and that most females who had lived were occupationally mothers. The entire culture of femalehood is basically motherhood. Once you engage in sexual transaction you've tarnished a dynamic that's important in a relationship, especially in a western, heteronormative society, that being sexual monogamy or sexual exclusivity. I think in the end, it's a very, very high cost you're paying when you're engaging in porn or prostitution.

While in the end it's one's choice to choose, I doubt that many are making the conscious decision knowing all the reality and dynamics involved. They just see a market and think it's a venture they might succeed in, and at the same time maybe (?) enjoy. In choosing a certain kind of freedom, you're forgoing other types of experiences, often in an irreversable manner.

I think in the end it's difficult to talk about this because it's really hard to pinpoint blame of the entire thing. Who is to blame? Who needs to have the guilt? Is this natural, or is this an imperfection of human society that could be solved?

There probably are philosophers who talk about sex better than I can, and there probably are some sex workers who are doing wonders for people who aren't able to experience intimacy for whatever reason. I think the framing of the question points to the complexity of the issue. Unless we assess the totality of human experience, from how we should create our society, how the family should be run, we won't have a uniform dynamic of how sex should function in our society.

Furthermore who's society are we talking about anyway? etc. I think the question opens up more much deeper questions about society and people.

The criminalization of sex work is probably where a lot of the exploitation and bad shit festers and thrives. It makes it so things like unionization and legal rights and protections are harder to obtain. When I look at how many jobs destroy people physically and mentally just to survive, I have a LOT of trouble ever villianizing sex work as a valid occupation over supporting the rights of the workers.

Porn is kinda like lighter version of smoking or drugs. It only hurts the user i think.

I suppose it will hurt society as a whole if we get to the point like in dystopian fiction stories where a large population of people consume porn and dont go out and fuck and produce babies.

And we know how bad things become with aging populations. Its actually happening in some countries now but its not because of porn, but other factors.

Not necessarily talking about the exploitation & such other posters have said but I think in its current state porn is unhealthy because of things like unrealistic expectations. For example, guys expect anal with no lube and the women dont stand up for themselves because they don't know better either. Excuse the crude example & hyperbole but hopefully ya'll get my point.

That said; I think something like softcore porn could be educational and healthy recreationally as well.

Lol, I don't do no fap. Masturbation isn't the issue, it's the porn and it's potential for addiction, messing up your dopamine cycles, messing with satisfaction and sex in real relationships, etc. There are people who can have healthy relationships with it, but the potential for harm is evident, especially for young boys growing up on it.
