Denuvo, which is associated with security for video games, is now offering its protection technologies through the Nintendo Developer Portal (NDP) as authorized Switch middleware.

This is apparently the first security partner on the portal, and developers can access the official Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection now. Denovo says its a revolutionary technology to protect games launching on Nintendo Switch from piracy.

The company points out that in the past, its been possible a Switch title to be emulated from day one and played on PC, therefore bypassing the strong protections offered on the PC version. Further stated: The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy.

Denovo claims that the technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain with no impact on the gaming experience. It then allows for the insertion of checks into the code, which blocks gameplay on emulators.

Irdeto CEO Doug Lowther said of todays news: As gamers, we know first-hand how piracy negatively affects the gaming industry. Were thrilled to be part of the Nintendo Developers Portal, so that we can provide the latest technologies to help fight this issue for Nintendo Switch players and developers. We witness an increasing need to protect against emulation on PC from game launch, our solution is a must have for publishers to monetize the games fairly on this platform and also not impact PC game sales.

Denuvo is only really relevant to "disposable" games that need to make all the sales in the first couple weeks, before everyone gets bored and moves on to the next big thing.

Mostly this is just going to be EA and Sega, maybe Squeenix.

Any game that uses Denovo deserves to be pirated.

I don't buy what you are saying. I think there's a lot of indie stuff that would benefit from something like Denuvo

Denuvo sounds like an anti-depressant drug whose commercial is narrated by a soft-spoken lady while we watch even older ladies at the park throwing a frisbee.

I don't think games in the perennial $2 dogpile are going to bother with Denuvo.

This, except mine isnt gen 1. It is in the maybe, maybe not category, and it turned out it was a yes when I made the attempt.

I did actually buy a jig though. Too lazy to fool with a paper clip, aluminum foil, etc.

Given that the Switch is nearly at the end of its cycle, I don't really see how this will change much

It's still kind of insane to me that apparently one person on the face of the planet knows how to beat Denuvo and she's fucking crazy from what I've heard

I'm not surprised Denuvo is still a thing. I am disappointed in Nintendo for being so desperate about emulation as to partner with them tho.

What do you suggest some of the Indie companies do to survive if they have piracy issues? This isn't something that is exclusive to AAA stuff either.

Ive never pirated a Switch anything. But I will if this makes it so I cant dump my legal purchases and play them on my PC.

What is he pirating in this case? He's using legally purchased games, and firmware or whatever dumped from a Switch he owns. Literally nothing is being pirated here.

I don't think it's piracy but it's also pretty obvious why Nintendo is going to do everything they can to stop people dumping Switch games on PC.

How is Denuvo supposed to work on a console that can potentially always be offline?
