It was really cool because it had pictures in it from the movie but none that directly showed Godzilla. I hadn't seen the movie yet at the time so it was a mystery to me.

you ever had anything like that?

The net opened, spilling a huge amount of fish onto the dock. "That's a lot of fish." Matthew Broderick said.

I had that too. The paperback version I owned was pretty cool and I wouldn't say it kept Godzilla's appearance all that secretive. It had a side profile of his face on the cover which was a reflective glossy texture. Also, there was a hole where his eye was which was filled in by the first page's image of his eye.

I have the novelization of Spider-Man 3

It actually cleared up a couple of plot inconsistencies from the movie.

I had the novelization of Doom:

To be perfectly honest, it sucks. I only read the first two before I ended up selling the books to a used book store.

Oh right, I definitely also had the novelization of Star Wars episode 2: Attack of the Clones. Read it before I saw the movie. First time I was actually disappointed by Star Wars (I was too young to realize Phantom Menace sucked)

So it's like an audiobook?

Basically, yes. I used to get books narrated and recorded on cassettes. Some libraries have stuff like this even back in the early 2000s. There's also an entire free service for people with disabilities such as vision-impairment that sends out books on cassette through the mail. Nowadays, they mostly do it through online services and audiobook formats.
