Even though at its worse it was a Cat 1 and parts of SD, LA, and the desert cities all got flooded. I'm sorry your house didn't get destroyed.

It's like people wanted to be put out or lose power/utilities. I don't get the internet

No, its people in CA who are upset that the projections showed a Cat 1 hurricane hitting but luckily it slowed down to just a Tropical storm the morning of. Even with that a lot of areas flooded still.

I'd imagine the people that are upset are the ones that wasted money panic buying a bunch of supplies.

It was just "meh" lol

I agree. I was honestly expecting more rain, but it was nice having the steady kind of rain and not the type that rains heavily for 5 minutes and then disappears.

Yeah probably. People buying 30 cans of beans and 20 gallons of water were like "Damn, what am I gonna do with these beans and all this water?"

There's no real "work's cancelled y'all!" authority. That didn't even happen during covid.

I heard some people were filling their bathtubs with water just in case they needed fresh water later. I felt like that was overdoing it, but putting batteries in flash lights isn't lol. We did that too. Because even if it didn't flood in our part of LA, losing power for a bit was definitely a possibility.

Yeah my gf's neighbor was saying he went to Costco on Saturday and it was chaos. The news made it clear that it would be a Category 1 at most, by the time it reached us. So I'm not sure why people were preparing like they were going to be stranded for weeks

That's standard operating procedure when preparing for a major hurricane. Apart for serving as a water supply when / if the plumbing fails, it also helps prevent sewage from backing up through your pipes and into your tub / home if the sewer system gets inundated.

It's definitely overkill for a TS / Cat 1 storm though.

While it does sound somewhat disgusting, that's not overdoing it at all. It takes all of a minute to fill a bathtub, all of a minute to drain it if you no longer need it, and provides gallons upon gallons of (mostly) clean water in an emergency.

If you go and look up survivalist tips and tricks, that's almost always one of the first things they recommend you do for a longer term supply of water.

It was people mostly being mad about the news gaslighting the hurricane to be some world ending catastrophe when it was essentially just a rain storm that barely delivered an inch of rain.

My favourite meme of hurricane Hillary is a picture captioned "the devestation of hurricane Hillary" showing a cheap, plastic lawn chair knocked over in someone's yard. Essentially sums up the nothingburger that was the hurricane. Most states get worse rain storms on the regular

Except they didnt. I followed the news on it. They told people to prepare for it and what to do because the infrastructure of Southern California isnt built to withstand a hurricane.

Even with a tropical storm it still flooded a lot of places.

It's the southwest. It floods nearly everytime it rains. The roads don't drain worth a damn too. I've seen them pool up with just a half inch of rain. Although, even for a tropical storm this was pretty weak. The water was practically all dried up/absorbed by the next day. Outside of rain in August, I've seen much rainer days. Most other states would laugh at us calling this a rainstorm

It's very rare for the west coast to get a hurricane. Understandable to overreact

Much like when some places in the South get an inch of snow and it shuts down the city

It wasn't a hurricane though by the time it hit land, heck it barely rained. The disconnect between what was told would happen and what actually did is why people are angry. Meteorlogy blew it. It was wrong even in the 12 hour forcast. It didn't just miss the bullseye it missed the whole board

I think it was the phrasing that some stations used. Like there were some saying we were going to get a years worth of rain just from this storm. There was another topic freaking out about how it was going to be a huge storm because of that.

True, there are some intersections in LA that flood every time it rains. The drains just don't work, for whatever reason.

But since Hilary affected such a large area, the impact varied pretty wildly. Some places got over 8 inches of rain Sunday, while others got 2-3 inches of rain.

I mean, it didnt get downgraded until the morning of but it wasn't a small storm. Some places still got hit hard and are still flooded.

I live near Escondido and we got a tornado warning.
