I have most of a degree in computer science. I still know how to write code but it's been a long time since I did software engineering (and honestly that's, like, a totally different thing). I got an 800 on the math portion of the SAT when I was 14. I speak enough Spanish to stream on Twitch in it and most of my internet friends can't speak English. My listening is about 1% as good as my reading but still. I will take basically anything as long as I don't have to go to an office.

This isn't a job site but yes like 25% of companies still are. Prob more in software. Way up from 5-10% pre covid but down from the peak.

Anyways, don't actively shit on yourself so much if you want to be hired for software (or any job really).

Am I actively shitting on myself? How should I phrase it if I'm trying to get back into an entry-level position because I've been away from the field for a long time? My most recent jobs have included reading and writing code to do tasks.

Say you have a degree and how many years of exp you have with code. Don't say your degree is incomplete or it's been a long time. You don't have to say you have software engineering exp if you never actually did it, but if you worked somewhere that did software engineering and understand the process then you can say that you know it (agile, scrum, etc).

Yeah everything about your post was a 101 on how not to sell yourself on a job application or at an interview.

dont lie, but also dont sell yourself short. Let them know your qualifications, dont qualify yourself.

You're right. I need to hedge a lot less. Thanks y'all :D

Still accepting leads for easy little 16/hr things because they'd function perfectly as a drop in replacement for my non-remote job lol

If you're okay with answering phones all day then there are a lot of remote support jobs. Remote chat support jobs are harder to find but they do exist. My salary comes out to about $20 hourly for a remote, chats only, support job.
