I've never heard of a developer taking back a patch before forcing it's player base to stop playing the game until they release the patch again. I had just made it to act 3 when the game autosaved and crashed. Next thing I knew it downloaded an update that was meant to prevent me from loading my size while they fix things lol.

Not like they did it on purpose, though. Sucks, but they'll probably fix it soon.

Weird edge case. If you saved in a new version and rolled back to an old version you can't load the save from the new version because the game isn't forwards compatible. It's like trying to load your D2:LoD character on D2 Vanilla it's just not going to work. I'm sure if you just wait for a bit they'll fix it right away

Yeah, this is really annoying. I went to play some more and found out about that.

Yeah I just saw my last save before the patch I can load up is 4 hours prior thankfully. I'm at a point in the game where there is heavy dialog i can quickly skip through to make up my progress again if needed. Hopefully they let people get their saves back though. I've never heard of a game doing that before. I can't imagine how much progress others could be losing.

I guess I can't be surprised anymore when games are buggy as fucking hell on release. I'll treat BG3 like a Bethesda game & get it next year.

Its not buggy as hell. They made a mistake by not testing a minor patch throughly enough and they very quickly fixed it and apologized. Youre greatly overblowing it.

This. They released it the following day, explained themselves, and apologized.

They did fix it quickly which was nice. It's not something that should ever happen with a game that was in early access for three years and is supposed to be officially released now, though.

No company can test their product the way its tested when several hundred thousand people use it so little patches are completely understandable. And it was just a compiler error that caused issues for literally one day. Expecting something like this to never happen is just an unattainable standard.

the game is still buggy as hell, not just due to that one instance.

This isn't really a "game released with a save-crippling bug" kind of situation, the crashing issue was caused by a hotfix that didn't compile correctly.

Also, why did this topic get necrobumped to complain about that?
