I second this. It was such a weird game.

Early Yu-Gi-Oh was basically the wild west. Every game played very different. It was really fun.

I really enjoyed Sacred Cards and..what was it.. Reshef Of Destruction? Those were some fun early YGO games.

I remember having that game back in middle school. Pretty sure I dont have it anymore. I never got far at all because it was so hard.

Werent you also able to put in numbers at the bottom of real cards to get them in-game? Though I remember most of the good cards not working.

I also had a YGO game for GBA that was a lot more manageable difficulty wise. Dark Duel Stories I think? Pretty sure I actually beat that one.

and good god the fucking grind for cards is some impressive shit.

It took me literally a week of constant play to get a single red eyes black dragon.

Beat that game a few weeks ago to settle a childhood grudge. Game is wack but it can be kinda fun. I had a fast forward option this time which makes the game significantly less tedious. I also took the time to learn a bit more about fusion, and I was able to make a Twin Headed Thunder Dragon deck pretty quickly.

The good cards would work, they would just have an absurd price tag (999999) that's basically impossible to obtain legit. I didn't get much use out of the star chip system back in the day, but it turns out you can get some pretty useful stuff from it. Petite Dragon and the Dragon Scroll are cheap low-level dragons you can use as a baseline to fuse stronger dragons. Jirai Gumo is also pretty cheap, and there's a few other useful cards for a reasonable price.

I vaguely remember that game. Thought it would be like the 4Kids version of the anime. I was wrong.

Some of the mods for that game seem like genuinely huge QoL improvements.

I'm playing vanilla with a speed up button. Wish we could talk more about these modded games.

One QoL I would like is to be able to sell extra cards to get star chips to exchange them other cards.

Isn't this the game where that final boss is a gauntlet and the guy has *all* the uber powerful cards? I could never beat him.

Like, the guy's got BEUD, Gate Guardian, BSD, THTD without fusing, raigeki out the ass, etc etc.

I remember that game had zero tutorials at all. You pretty much had to get your ass whooped by the AI to learn how to play. Then you had to just start testing random shit over and over again to learn what works and what doesnt. I didnt have a memory card for the PS1 back then when I had it with my PS2 so I never actually got deep into it

Thankfully we have this great websight with guides that'll help with you all that. Early game is simple, have a bunch of female cards and other misc cards because female cards can pretty much combine with any other cards.

Water, fish, spellcasters, machine, beast-warrior, light, bug and fiend are all pretty much useless because they are limited in combining with much. Stick with females, Rock, Dragon, Plant, Fire, Warrior and Lightning.

If you have to read a guide to be taught the BASICS of the game, especially when the rules dont match any other game for the franchise, then that is horrible game design

I know Pegasus does for sure. Him having the Millennium Eye means he at least knows what you have down on the field even if it means if you play a face down. I tested this myself; if I put down a weak monster in offense mode he'll attack it if he knows he can beat it but if he can't beat it he'll put down a face down in defense.

Pro fucking tip: There are a lot of different mods/variations of the game that changes things like drop rates, dropping up to 15 cards per win, fusion combinations, even adding in new cards into the game. Only thing is it's quite hard getting details on what certain mods do because the one site that kind of compilates them is...in Spanish or Portuguese?

Got 210 wins over Meadow Mage and I got 3 Dark Magicians, 3 Gaia Knights, 3 Black Meteor Dragons, 3 Curse of Dragons, 2 Skull Knights, 2 Braccos, 2 Fire Pegasus. Just need one more Skull Knight then I'm off his ass BAHAHAHAHA

There is a YT on it but in short IIRC AI hands and draws are never random.

I use save states so yeah I'm pretty much cheating too.

I have never played this game and I do not think I will ever play it without mods.

My brother beat it without mods about a year ago.

I had Duelist of the Roses on PS2. Fun game.

My favorite was the rog false bound kingdom. Played the crap out of it on GameCube.

The only YGO videogame I ever played was Dark Duel Stories for GBC. Hella fun even if you could cheese it pretty easily.

Heishin and Nightmare were fun what-if enemies, at least.

How could you cheese it?

There was a card creator feature where you could make monsters with 2000 ATK that required no tributes. Which let you behind really OP pretty early on. Plus the AI was crap and you could always bait an attack into a trap or a monster with a strong defense

Only one I got to play was Eternal Duelist Soul on GBA :( which was pretty fun but grindy af

Still the best Yugioh game

I beat that hard guy like 125-150 times trying to get BEUD. Can you even get it? Probably not. Wasn't that hard with a Skull Knight deck with a million equips especially those +1000 ones you get from intentionally taking forever to beat Pegasus.

I remember actually beating that guy you're supposed to lose to in the campaign once when I was a kid, lucked out on some fusions first 2 turns.

Remember getting mad cus he just goes "no, this is impossible" or smth and then just redoes the fight again lol

There was some weird ass mechanic where you can have parts of a whole monster but the parts would be like 2k attacker normal summonable guy for whatever reason, and the whole monster would be a worse 2 tribute monster.

Anyways, shove those parts into the deck and you could basically beat everybody. Wacky game

Man I beat Joey 2's ass like 130 times and he still ain't drop me no Meteor Dragon or REBD

After grinding forever I now have a lot of good cards but Setup 3 is fucking ridiculous. Dude summons UBEWD and Gate Guardian and just wipes your ass. I'm gonna need some equipment cards. Grinding for some Mountain and Dragon Treasure cards to help boost my MBD. Getting A/S Teca for potential magic cards is grindy as fuck.

It was like a weird mix of Pokmon and if you took everything away from Civ but left the cities, then you would move your monsters around like an RTS and also garrison cities.

Was fun but really weird.

unfortunately the maps had virtually no tactics so they really just served as lobbies between battles...
but DAMN did that game have a soundtrack. like, i still go back and listen sometimes.
worth playing for that alone tbh.

**edit: eh, I remember some tactics. Like heavily setting up a city, drawing the enemy to you and trouncing them, then pouncing on their cities when the defenses were lessened.
