Theres almost no point in bringing this up. There are still people out there that will defend GameFreaks mediocrity.

This is pretty funny, because I was around when PBR launched, and it's animations were seen as a weak point for the game. The game overall was seen as lesser than the Stadium games it was trying to be a successor to and really only had online play going for it in comparison (Gen 4 did not allow online matches with Random players, but PBR did).

Ya. I kinda hate myself for grabbing violet day 1. Won't be doing that anymore. Wait for reviews and also regular people impressions. Even reviews can be unreliable about how a game actually is.

Everyone knows Pokmon could/should have better graphics.

It's just so damn fun to play, though.

Yeah, I'm constantly disappointed in the Pokemon games. They could be doing so much more with them, but they just do the bare minimum because it sells like hotcakes anyway. Hopefully something comes along that gives Pokemon a run for it's money so that they actually have to try.

But Gamefreak has a monopoly on them, per their employees words they are 2 to 3 generations behind in technology, the older devs are incompetent and would rather engage in company politics and nobody tries anything because the games will sell anyway.

Battle Revolution wasn't developed by Game Freak, that's why.

To be fair SV did try, but yeah the crunch and not exactly being the best programmers ended up making things how they turned out

Yeah, playing sword and shield... it was really animated like a child moving a toy figurine on a table and all the effects for attacks were their imagination

Game Freak having a monopoly on traditional-style games is the only thing they have. A different studio having a shot at a traditional-style game would invite comparisons they could not look good in.

Also, Battle Revolution reused a lot of models from the N64 Stadium games.

A small handful were redone for the Western release, but seeing a Pokemon like Machamp who still looks the same as he did on the N64 games next to the newer Pokemon with their higher fidelity models was rather jarring.

No it still runs like shit. And they don't seem to care. Just going full ahead on the DLC. Which is 35 fuckin dollars

It did not. Colosseum and XD did, but Battle Revolution remade everything from scratch.

It's definitely real... It's Raging Bolt... and all the Paradox Pokmon look weird... It's kind of the point of them...

No, Battle Revolution definitely reused some of the older models. They updated the textures, but it was still clearly the same model.

The dumbest thing is that it would have been relatively simple to do with just a bit of futureproofing. I know one of the Stadium games was a little overdone in terms of length of animations, but those otherwise should have been the basis of GF's animations. Instead, you have models that should punch or kick that do neither, models that should use proper breath/beam attacks that do neither, lazy hopping animations and cheap effects.

Blastoise still doesn't use it's cannons for Hydro Pump, something even the Stadium games did starting back in 1998.

Cinderace also lost it's unique animation when it used Pyro Ball, instead now just using a generic attacking animation.

I specifically remember when they justified removing a bunch of Pokemon in one of the games with the justification that they were making completely new HD models that they'd be able to reuse in the future to save themselves time, and that's why the animations were so lifeless.

The sad thing is that I can't remember whether they said that in gen 6 or gen 7...

I know for sure that there was a huge fuss over that with Gen 8 (Sword/Shield) reusing old models. Don't know if it started before then.

uh no the fuss was not about reusing models

it was about gamefreak LIEING

they claimed they had to cut most of the pokedex because they made all brand new models for every pokemon

then it was proven they didnt

then they claimed they had done it for the new animations

then it was proven the animations where lazy

The future-proofing comment was during Gen 6, but Dexit happened at Gen 8.

Too bad everybody hated PBR and Coliseum/XD when they came out. Now the fanbase wants back everything they offered. They're getting exactly what they deserve lol

tbh what gets me is that mons still don't make contact aside from LA. Really hoping they do it for the next one now that they've learned from LA, but still

GF don't even do the models IIRC.

Yeah. Colosseum was extremely lacking on the battle sim side compared to the Stadium games and also has very poor and glitchy move animations and particle effects.

Battle Revolution was seen as somewhat of a step in the right direction as far as the battle sim goes, but was still lacking in that regard. Genius Sonority was actually not looked highly upon back then.

Yeah they'd have to suffer a loss of sales. Which is not going to happen. People just keep drinking the diarrhea smoothie that they push out every year. Myself included. But I'm going to stop drinking it next time.
