I mean it pretty much starts at least 1.5 years before the elections when people start running. It's insane it's so drawn out.

Compare it to elections in other countries where we have 3-9 months and rarely a full year. So much money spent on these campaigns.

How long do you think u.s. elections should be?

You bring up a good point. I'm not concerned about that. It's just hypothetical.

I think one of the only ways it could be really enforced is if by an amendment or something.

Moving the filing dates may be viable.

They definitely could be shorter. They (networks) basically start "Road to the White House" programming the Spring after inauguration.

Change something about raising money too far off from the first primary.

There's no reason not to have presidential primaries on the same day in all 50 states.

They need to be shorter and not be about how much money you can throw at your campaign. Every candidate should have an equal amount of coverage so its not just the elite getting the spotlight

That's because we have no idea when the next election is going to be. It could be six months from now, it could be six weeks from now. So all plans for fighting elections are necessarily elastic and only become set in stone when we actually have a date to plan things around. The Americans always have a date to plan things around so they plan years in advance. Why wouldn't you?

Do you think drawn out presidential primaries produce worse candidates?

I think placing certain states at the forefront of the process increases their power in a way similar to the electoral college - which we all now recognize as anti-democratic.

Reduce the amount of money candidates can either collect or spend on a campaign. This will make it hard to have a long term campaign.

Have all primaries on the same day and used ranked choice voting.
