Just straight up ask the mom if the reason they have a lot of kids is because she likes to bang.

It's their choice... As long as they're taking care of the kids I don't care.

I wouldn't say we need to set a hard limit on how many kids people can have like china. But yes 8 kids is a lot.

My mum's one of 9 and thinks it's ridiculous her parents didn't stop at 4 or 5.

My grandparents were super Catholic so contraception was forbidden. My mum's main memory of her mum growing up was being constantly in a weakened state of pregnancy or post natal til she died before she even hit 50 of bowel cancer

Then this old school military vet who didn't even really like kids much had to raise 9 by himself

I wouldnt want that many, but that doesnt matter.

Its only problematic if the children suffer as a result.

Even with 3 I often feel bad for how little I'm able to have one-on-one time with each kid.

I just hope they had that many because they promised themselves and each other that they were capable of showing each and every one of their children an equal amount of love and attention, and they do it. You should never have more kids than you're able to love and care for equally. If you're overwhelmed and your kids' upbringing and home life is poorer because of it, and that became apparent by kid #4 but you kept going anyway, then you made bad choices.

Oh, and also: don't expect me to subsidize your sex life. You make this choice yet you're expecting other people to pick up the tab, since you can't afford to have that many kids? Then don't have them. Your kids are not supposed to be an ATM.

In certain countries with declining birth rates this would be a good thing. But how often does it happen these days?

I think it's highly irresponsible. Id say even three kids is pushing it. I can understand wanting to have kids but the world's going to shit and it's not going to get better for anyone for a good long while.

Ultimately their choice and with global declining birth rates it isn't like some outliers are going to even budge numbers. Personally I find it to be an odd choice, depending on your field there may just not be a good way to provide societal norm level of care for all of them without assistance. Even one provider has a well paying job the time it would take away from the family is harmful in and of itself.

My first thought when I see large families is that they are some sort of crazy religious extremists.

On 2 separate occasions recently I saw moms with 5 kids (with the youngest still an infant so who knows if they are done). White so of course my first thought was Christian extremist.

1-3 kids seems normal
4 is pushing it
5 means there was at least one "whoopsy" kid
6+ is a cult

They must have a lot of money

If the parent(s) can Support them all without benefits then I couldn't care less. But It's usually poorer familys or single woman doing so.

Ohh my grandpa had that many kids (maybe more) with 3 different women. Iirc he only took care of 4 of the kids. Barely had a relationship with the others
