Have you played the Science Adventure games other than Steins;Gate? Chaos;Head, Robotics;Notes, Chaos;Child etc. They're quite good! VA-11 Hall-A was a fun play, too.

ive only played steins;gate, steins;gate 0, and chaos;head (I think, the first one). Loved steins;gate, enjoyed 0, I loved the first half of chaos;head but hated the second half

Hmmm. I guess I can only offer the other three games as recommendations based on what you hated about Chaos:Head.

just to be clear with that, i loved the first half when it was about the murders and whatnot. its been a while now but i loved the atmosphere and whatnot even though I disliked the protagonist. what I disliked about the second half was once they pulled out the giant swords and whatnot and the story went off the rails

In that case, I can't recommend Chaos;Child. You may enjoy Robotics;Notes, particularly the first one; DaSH is possibly the weakest entry in the series.

its a lot but it seems to be a mix of whats most popular across steam and VNDB, out of what I havn't read yet

i think i spoiled myself of some of it a little just seeing the tags on vndb to see if it would interest me at all though

I haven't played those aside from the ones you mentioned in previous posts.

I will say I looked into Wonderful Everyday and apparently the Steam Version of the game removed the vast majority of the content. You can restore it with a free official patch, but that patch includes some pretty fucked up content, some of which is erotic.

I'll kinda unrecommend cross channel, the translation is very poor

other than that, fine list? although there's some stuff on there like Aokana, grisaia, and most of the Key games that are a lot more slice of life / romance / comedy sorts of games which kinda stands out from your first post where you named basically all mystery/suspense stuff. they're good games but just to make sure you know what you're getting into

I've been interested to try VNs, but I kinda want a little game play, like response choices and puzzles and what not. I tried to play Steins;Gate because I loved the anime but got turned off that there was no gameplay elements it seemed.

Any like that for those who are fans?

Phoenix Wright, Zero Escape, Ai the Somnium Files, and Danganronpa might be what youre looking for there.

Theres also 13 Sentinels for PS4 and I think Switch. Cant believe I forgot about this one for a moment but this is probably my favourite VN. Its not on PC though

I watched the Clannad anime and liked it, and also read rewrite already so I think Ill enjoy the rest of the stuff from Key. I want to read Clannad as well even though I watched the anime.

I also read Grisaia no Kajitsu and enjoyed it, although I never finished the series

i like pretty much any genre so long as the work is good, Ive probably just read more of suspense stuff than anything

Actually on the note of censorship, is it even worth buying half of this on steam? Like if theyve removed some violent scenes and whatnot then Id rather just not buy a censored copy.

edit: ok I bought it all. Ill just check for uncensored patches/versions before playing any of this then

I don't think you really have to worry about it that much, as far as I'm aware most of the games in that list have either no censoring or just have the sex scenes removed. which are usually not particularly important and if you really want them I'm sure you can find a patch out there somewhere.

the big exception is wonderful everyday, which has like 80%+ of the game removed so that they could get in on steam in the first place. but this was a planned intentional decision, since the publishers/localizers released the restoration patch alongside it and you're basically expected to apply it to play the actual game. basically just a way of skirting around steam's regulations.

oh also if you're looking for another rec (I know you have already) I recommend you, me, and her

edit: just in a general sense, when people talk about censorship in visual novels like 99% of the time it's porn/sex stuff. violence is basically never censored since western media and storefronts are totally fine with violence

actually, 2 others as well. White album and Yu-No. are these any good? I think white album 2 is highly rated but it doesnt seem to be on steam

yu-no is a really old/influential VN point and click hybrid kinda game that was extremely loved back in the day, the steam version is a graphical remaster of it that doesn't really change the story or anything. I haven't read it myself but I've seen split opinions between people thinking it's still great and people feeling it's a little bit outdated (the original game is from like 1995 or something)

white album I know basically nothing about, everyone just talks about white album 2. which suggests to me it's probably unremarkable. it's not a direct sequel and I don't think even shares any characters? so I'm pretty sure everyone just skips the first game and only plays WA2
