He wrote an entire song about one of the animatronics. Not even the main and most well known version of Freddy Fazzbear, but his old, golden form. So Ted must be pretty fluent in the rich FNAF lore. I hope they use this song in the movie. :)

Dozens of successful books. Several successful games
Hollywood movie which is the start of a trilogy (as well as a knock off movie that was successful) read and played by tens of millions of kids and teens worldwide.

And it's child suitable horror and spooky stories.

Other than "Well I;m not a kid anymore so I don't like new thing." how is it not the new generation version of Goosebumps?

Don't take it as a personal slight. You're more than allowed to claim the thing from your childhood was better than the thing today

But it's silly to deny the parallels.

"New"

FNAF came out in 2014 lol. I wasnt even 25 when i played the first one. FNAF has a dedicated fan base and owes its entire popularity to markiplier.

It had 2 great games in FNAF 1 and 2 and have released duds every step of the way. Their lore is so awfully written that EVERY movie gets stuck in dev hell trying to make sense of it.

i cant speak on the books because i dont care enough about FNAF to read them.

Goosebumps had mostly well-written books and have a lot scarier stuff in them than a few jump scares from FNAF and were a household name.

And you have a weird definition of success because none of the FNAF rip off movies have been successful. I bet the new movie doesnt even get past a direct to red box sequel

and i say that as someone who generally likes the FNAF games

How you claim you don't read the books yet Goosebumps is better?

And the Markpiler point is weird. They mutually benefitted each other and the franchise is still ongoing but even if you ignore that and pretend "It only took off due to Markiplier!" ... so what? It took off. What's your point?

I don't get why you people seem to think "I prefer the older thing that was around when I was kid, therefor can't compare them!" makes any kind of sense whatsoever.

They're both quirky multi-media childrens horror franchises that are hugely successful.

You're crazy egotistical

Because Goosebumps is a book series and FNAF is a video game franchise?

and RL Stine is one of the greatest authors of all time, especially for kids/teens

and FNAF's lore is god-awful.

Well for a start I don't see why that matters in a vacuum. You can compare things across different mediums and video gaming didn't exist like it does now in 1992.

For another, FNAF has sold over 9 million books. Not a patch on Goosebumps but still, FNAF is a multi-media franchise.

And it's childfriendly quirky horror. So the comparison is ripe.

Says person who has never read FNAF books and probably hasn't read Goosebumps since he was a child.

Besides it's irrelevant opinion. "I like the stuff I had as a kid more than the new things I didn't grow up and don't understand." is fine, but you're literally claiming they can't be compared. Which is bonkers.

Like saying you can't compare Joker to The King of Comedy because you like the latter more.

It's weird egotism

Wrong, I read a goosebump book with my little brother this summer for a summer library reading competition for his school.

And I shouldn't have to read a companion book to judge the lore. Halo has good lore and ive never read any of the halo books which I've heard are good. I judge FNAF by the lore in games because that's its main medium. Same way i wouldn't judge goosebumps any differently if they released a shitty video game.

Its not about liking something more from my childhood. I'm not looking at something with nostalgia glasses. I liked space jam as a kid and when I watch it as an adult I can see its an awful movie objectively. I still love it.

FNAF has awful lore and more bad games than good. Its not the next big teen horror franchise. Yeah, its more succesful than people thought it would be and im glad because the first 2 games are good and it deserves it.

FNAF just has some of the worst storytelling and lore in video games. Its objectively bad. Even when i watch FNAF friendly youtubers play the games they say its bad. The only people i see who say its good are FNAF hardcore fans who will defend it from anything.

FNAF does what every horror franchise does that kills itself.

It gives too much story to it and kills the mystery of the monsters.

Right off the bat, Goosebumps had Lore companion books as well. I had one as a kid and another got released with the movie.

I like how you cut out the part about you not actually reading a single FNAF book as well as how "I prefer Goosebumps so therefore you can't compare them" doesn't mean anything.

Hell even "Well I watched a video and the guy in the video said the thing was bad" is weird.

Also what does "It's objectively bad" mean?

It's opinion. There's no such thing as an obective opinion. Meanwhile the only non opinion metric is sales and critical reception. Which FNAF does well in.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with prefering the thing you grew up with as a kid, that's natural. You can love Goosebumps and hate FNAF until the cows come home, but why are you claiming that you can't compare a quirky multi-media child friendly horror franchise with a quirky multi-media child friendly horror franchise? Solely because you like one more than the other?

FNAF is very much a modern day goosebumps regardless of your opinion on either property. It's just the next generations version of the same thing.

And in 20 years time someone like you is going to be claiming that you can't compare FNAF to Captain Tim's Spooky Town because FNAF is so much better.

FNAF is popular sure but its not goosebumps level of successful. Saying FNAF is the next Goosebumps is like saying Klay Thompson is the next Michael Jordan. They are both successful in their field but one is Michael Jordan

For sure. Goosebumps is much more successful and likely there will never be anything that will touch it's sales numbers since it's not the 90s anymore and book franchises won't be that big.

In terms of book sales figures it can't be touched by anything except Harry Potter
