Keep the same isometric view, same music, same levels including the bonus levels, same monsters and everything but make it 3D.

I'd love to see the game with improved graphics and an improved engine.

Online co-op would be great.

Loved that game as a kid. I still have the password for level 5 burned into my head despite these 20+ years passing.

NYZZ.

it's definitely hard but i've beat it before. you can't use the last password and win(well i'm sure people that pretty much mastered the game can). but generally the best way to beat the game is starting a new game and building up a huge collection of items for the end game. i'm sure you can start somewhere in the mid game and still build up enough items to get you through. i just always started a new game when i played. plus you only need to save 1 person so it helps if you know where they spawn at.

I have issues with stuff like that, my left eye won't focus enough to get it to work. VR stuff is a bitch for me to use.

One of the FAQs even has a guide for how hard the game is to beat depending on which stage you start from

I heard that this lails guy is really good at it, one of the few people out there who has saved all the neighbors in a single run. He also beat the game with just a squirt gun (except for one level where you need to blast a wall to advance), and beat every level starting with no weapons.

I don't think it's possible to beat it with a squirt gun but I could be wrong.

Also, saving all the neighbors in single run? Maybe.

Nah, the 2D sprites aged really well. I get the feeling if this game were to get 3D models it would be very low budget thus end up uglier than the SNES (and genesis) 16 bit originals.

You have to hit it with the sodas. They short circuit it and can blow it up in about like 7 hits or so.

You can actually easily play the game via online co-op now with the PS4 version of the zombies ate my neighbors/ghoul patrol collection just using the built-in share play feature. (The PC version can use something like parsec or the steam link thing I believe, but I have always used PS4/PS5 share play for stuff like this that has couch co-op but not native online play).

One of these days I want to see if I can get my brother or my boy to get a share-play session on the PS4 version to play through that game in co-op. This is one of those games that imo is harder to beat in co-op then it was by myself like with battletoads.

Only way I was ever able to beat it. I never beat this game skipping ahead or on co-op to be honest.

Most people have the same reaction: "I loved that game as a kid, but I never beat it."

It was designed to have a battery backup, but LucasArts couldn't afford it. So they used a password system as a band aid solution. The problem is that it resets your items when you use a password and it's not possible to beat the game if you restart from anywhere except the level immediately following the first spider boss. No matter what, you're looking at beating the last twelve levels in one sitting.

The best way to beat the game is to carve out a few hours and beat it from start to finish. Even then, the Super Fund Clean Up Site can easily end your game if you haven't played it through once before to scout out where the potential victims are hiding. There is nothing more frustrating than to beat forty levels only to lose at the very end.

And EVEN THEN, I highly, highly recommend saving up your red monster potions from the start of the game. Don't go for the No Bazooka Fired Bonus or the Chainsaw Begone Bonus in the fourth level. Use the bazooka and save the red monster potions for the real boss fights and only kill the chainsaw maniacs that you absolutely must kill.

With just the squirt gun it's almost possible because there's a wall that needs blasting on level 36 that you have to blow down to advance. The rest of the level is a massive pain because you need to rely on the chainsaw maniac to clear the rest of the walls, but it can be done. Even level 46 can be done without firing a single bazooka, and is actually easier than 36.

Remember that for a squirt gun only run, all you need to do is get through each level with 1 victim (2 on level 30 because the last remaining victim is behind cobwebs). It's still not easy by any means but it can be done. The difficulty is with a couple factors, keeping your last victim alive. Watching your health which is limited, because with just the squirt gun you're going to miss out on a lot of first aid kits and secret level bonuses that are behind walls. The big boss will take a couple hundred hits with the gun so you'll lose a lot of health there. But the game has enough ammo to get through even the final boss as long as you don't spend ammo on regular level enemies and mostly dodge them.

The all victims saved runs are documented out there, and this was a lot harder. I played it very safe and it still took me a couple tries each weekend for about half a year. You need to remember where over 500 victims are, the obvious death traps and how to avoid them. My run was about 3 hours for a perfect playthrough and it's not even close to the speedrunners who have managed less than half that, hoping for the best with RNG in some runs and knowing the exact distance to despawn enemies offscreen before rushing in to save the victims.
