I've never played any BG game. From what I've seen of some footage, I'm getting the vibe that this is pretty much DnD with its own incomprehensible story line. Like, you have a party, you roll a dice after you make decisions, etc?

That plus gameplay that ostensibly looks very similar to D:OS2.

I haven't played but why do you expect the story to be incomprehensible?

from what I've seen, pretty much this (since it's from the same developer) plus a dice roll for skill checks, in and out of combat.

since you can't get a full D&D experience without the imagination of real players, the dice roll is supposed to help offer the next best thing.

also, since the narrative is bound by the limits of video games, the story is apparently good, too.

You pretty much nailed it, except the story is great and easy to follow.

Yeah i never played any dnd or crpg. From my understanding, basically you form a team, tanks in the front and long range at the back. Also lots of reading, much more than jrpgs. Did i get it right?

I dunno tbh, I think i read a quick blurb and it did that fantasy thing where it introduced a bunch of words for things that you're suppposed to know. E.g. "the infected are controlled by the Mind Flayer, who is looking to bring about the end of The Convergence using the 7 Fasclows". That kind of thing. For all I know it's actually pretty straightforward.

Divinity Original Sin 2 had a system where the environment and damage types were the overwhelmingly most important factors in combat, plus it was very challenging throughout.

So even if you had the tankiest tank or an OP mage, it counted for shit if you were positioned poorly or you didn't have a balanced team that used the right combination or choice of physical vs magic damage.

Forget about previous BG games, they totally don't play the same as BG3.

BG1 & 2 is turn based / real time hybrid. BG3 is fully turn based.

Same developers.

Yeah, there will be a lot of 'fantasy jargon' as is set in the Forgotten Realms, but a lot of it you don't need to know, or the game will tell you about anyway.

Illithid/mind flayers are basically just Cthullu horror that make more of themselves by infecting people with tadpoles and slowing turning them into another illithid.

Bad guys with psionic powers that are led by a giant brain.

Yea it looks like D:OS in a licensed setting rather than classic BG, but I guess that's why the Pathfinder games exist if that's what you're looking for.
