Financial standpoint alone, didn't Florida's inflation double since DeSantis took over? Average teacher there makes 51k, meaning a lot make under that, who can afford to live there unless their partner makes significantly more?

Wow New Mexico is the only blue state in the bottom 21. I expected it to be largely red states that underpay teachers, but not to that degree.

Although I guess that to be somewhat fair, the red started also largely have lesser costs of living. But still

If someone asked me to go teach, I'd laugh in their faces. I have enough self awareness to know I have zero business trying to be a teacher, I'm shitty at training one person as it is.

Same. We have a kid now and are trying to come up with an exit plan before she starts kindergarten.

When I moved to Florida it was great but cant see raising a child here right now.

By just about every metric by which we measure a state's success (e.g. poverty rate, violent crime rate, teen birthrate, etc) New Mexico is the lone blue state amid a sea of really shitty red states. I don't know what they're doing wrong there, but I've wondered if the state's reservations are doing worse than those in other states.

Yeah the chart isn't really helpful given COL differences and initial cost (degree), the latter especially as some states like FL have allowed teaching without a teaching degree.

this is what they want. The right thinks teaching is just reading from the curriculum and then giving formative and summative assessments, but they never consider the rest of teaching. How would these people spot learning disabilities or handle students with IEPs or notice patterns in their mistakes? Scary times for sure.
