Parody is one thing, but sometimes characters were just blatant rip-offs without humor or irony. Baxter Stockman's origin is The Fly. They're planning on disintegrating him rather than teleporting him, but the principle is the same and the result is the same. He becomes a human-fly hybrid. And the packaging for the toy lists, "Help me, please help me," as his favorite quote. And speaking of toys directly referencing their influences, Rat King's packaging listed Willard as his favorite movie. You know, that 70s movie about a guy who controls rats and has them to carry out his bidding.

And it goes without saying that the Pizza Monster is just a Xenomorph. Even at the time, Fox was known to lay out cease-and-desist claims against properties that copied their design a little too closely. I guess this one must've slipped beneath the radar.

You probably need to brush up on your copyright law if you think any of your example qualify.

People have been sued for less. The owners of Godzilla successfully sued Subway over that Five Dollar Foot Long commercial that had the giant dinosaur in it.

I mean if Fox was going to sue TMNT over that, they'd have to sue Dragonball Z for third form Freiza too.

you make some weird posts and topics dude, such as when you tried to insist the tmnt "dont really like pizza" and you were proven wrong in like 20 seconds. if all of these 80s/90s references were a problem, they would have been a problem at the time. today, such things as the xenomorph design arent used, and thus its not really a problem today. if they used it and it became a problem, then itd be worthy of discussion. as it stands, you seem to be attempting to create controversy out of nothing on many topics.

No, that's not what I said. I said there were adaptations where they didn't like pizza. There was a comic that used it as a dig at the 1987 cartoon.

It might have been adaptation singular, but still.

it was literally one issue written by a guest writer, just as an fyi. there hasnt been a single series where they hated pizza.

to be fair this has happened a few times, but it has never been some canon thing. it has usually been a guest writer taking liberties for a miniseries, in one direction or another.

They really need a series bible.

In the '87 cartoon show, Irma would be repulsed by the Turtles in one episode and have the hots for them in another.

I apologize if I came across as trying to generate controversy. I will admit I was a little harsh the other day with some of the things I said about the lack of consistency in the franchise. I stand by the underlining sentiment, I don't think a little consistency is too much to ask for, but I might have been a little too inflammatory about it.

i think the issue is tmnt has been rather inconsistent throughout its existence. a lot of iterations of tmnt just choose to focus on certain things over others. the new movie for example chose to focus on the "teenage" aspect of tmnt. and yes it did change certain things about certain characters, but almost every tmnt has done so. i mean just look at leatherhead for example. in some instances hes a cajun male. in other cases hes a dimwitted wrestler-esque male. in the new movie hes a cajun female. etc and so on. when there is no innate consistency to certain aspects, then it leaves it open for writers to experiment. and i personally dont think there is an issue with that, as long as they get the baseline stuff right, which the new movie does, for example.

Well she's Australian in the new movie but yea.

Billy sued the Normal Show cause they had a parody character of him, Google it plenty of pics and videos about it. A judge through out the case.

well, yeah. australian, cajun, its typically played the same in movies, anymore. i think you get my point, though. the point is the character can be played in a variety of ways without betraying the core parts. leatherhead's character isnt in whether theyre male or female.

thank fucking god they made some of them chicks, shoulda made more but i get they are easing into it.

it was great. hell of a lot better than TMNT3: Japan. I liked the 2008? "TMNT" movie too. Original Turtles still holds up, Turtles 2 is... bad but i will watch it. I still like it. I like the original Mario movie too.

Every movie that I've mentioned in this topic I have seen in theatres, when it was originally released.

I have like every TMNT action figure and like 40 sealed ones also. Some of the retro gimmick ones I'm "meh" about: water spitting, sports, head-popping, and wind-up versions of the turtles...never wanted to collect those. I have all the original characters and the alt costumes.
