Until starting my marathon earlier this year, I had played every main series Final Fantasy (except 11 and a few of the spinoffs) at least once during my life (dating back to about fourth grade, when I played 4, my intro to the series), but only ever saw credits for 14 and 15.

Thankfully I can now add 1 through 5 to that list, and soon 6.

Seeing 4's ending after all these years was immensely gratifying closure.

I haven't played a non-Smash fighting game since the N64 (and even then it was Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which was more or less a glorified SNES port), and I have no interest in reversing this trend.

I think that Shadow the Hedgehog is a pretty good game
It definitely has the very best Shadow theme song, and it's not even close.

My gaming sin? I've been subscribed to World of Warcraft for ~19 years straight. Literally since day one. Even when it sucked during Shadowlands and I didn't play it, I stayed subscribed.

If it were more like Zero Mission, I'd love it to death, but it's just too slow-paced and has awkward controls.

I dont really enjoy the Sonic games.

I remember playing one on my Gamegear? I didnt enjoy it very much.. I had fun speeding along and jumping across a lot of stuff, but Id come to a hard stop to jump on something or change direction to a lower area of the level. Itd feel very jarring to get back to gotta go fast speed to say the least. I also felt like the whole porpoise of the game was defeated at that point.

I think I had a lot more fun with Sonic DX and the Sonic Battle games tbh, but those seem well removed from the original DNA >_>
Well there's your problem. You played the game gear version. Genesis version is better about speed and not being cropped to fit a handheld screen.

Despite that I tend to buy games on multiple consoles (PS5/Switch or PS5/Steam Deck), I never finish them. In fact, I own over 100 games but I've only completed a handful.

Never completed Chrono Trigger, or any other RPG that I've played.

Every once in awhile, I tend to save scum to get the results that I want (usually, sports games).

I don't play fighting games because I'm terrible at them and probably wouldn't be able to remember the combos

The default controls are crap. Just change them to:
Y - Shoot
B - Jump
A - Run
and youre golden.

I come from the days of Quick Save and Quick Load and have emulated a lot of shit, so Im very save scummy.
I do not trust auto saves at all especially in FromSoft games so I quit the game to title screen, then manually backup the auto save to make my own manual save if thats all the game allows.
Ive never played Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. Missed them back in the day, started a playthrough of BGEE a year or two ago, put it down for something and havent gone back.
Sometimes, I will time save. For example, Ive played hundreds of games of dice in the Witcher 1 to get money over various playthroughs. These days, instead of playing a hundred dice games I will just open a save editor and give myself 5000 gold or whatever, because Im not cheating at all: Im just keeping myself from wasting a lot of time doing something I long ago got tired of doing.

64 reminded me.
I got bored of playing Dark Souls 1 like your typical Souls enthusiast and now I always make it a point to play as heinously as possible.

I dupe boss souls. I wear stone armor. I do Sen's Gate skip and get Homing Soulmass/Soul Spear early. I snipe Manus and Capra from outside their rooms. I use poison on Priscilla without aggroing her. I unplug O&S' AI. I do the speedrunner firebomb strat for Bed of Chaos. I don't even bother finishing the game most of the time because BoC and Gwyn are boring.
I need to try that TWOP glitch sometime.

I have never legitimately beaten Oracle of Ages. I couldn't beat the final boss when I was little so I GameSharked the Master Sword into my inventory and beat it that way.

I don't think I've ever "beaten" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 without abusing in game cheats. Love the game but it's a bit too hard in some aspects.

I didn't really get into playing games solo until I was about 18 years old, after I had graduated from high school, so I have a lot of "blind spots" when it comes to so-called classics.

the thing is, after playing more modern games (at that point), the "classics" felt pretty mechanically and/or narratively antiquated to me, so I come off as a contrarian when I say I didn't enjoy them.

I've been gaming on a pc since 2015 and I still haven't completely adapted to a keyboard yet lol.

I prefer using either controller or a mouse without keyboard. I mainly play 3rd person games or point n clicks. Just find it more comfy

Also since 2019 I've capped games at 60 fps even if my system has the headroom to achieve 100+ fps. Thought it better to just get attuned to lower fps so I dont complain that I'm not achieving 100+ fps.

When I do upgrade to a newer system (planning on upgrade to rtx 5000 series) I'll still cap at 60 fps. Goal is to achieve low Temps low fan speed peace n quiet at least till games become more demanding again with ps6/next gen Xbox

Mainly that I bought in game currency in MMOs up to the point it wasn't necessary. Games like RuneScape or WoW back in the day. Since I worked and had only so much time to play, I viewed it as the more practical option over the alternative (boring ass grinding or playing economy) if I wanted to actually play the game.

Bloodborne rewards aggression with its "rally" system (basically, if you're injured, you have a small window, where if you attack an enemy, you can get some health back).

edit: I guess Bloodborne isn't technically a Souls game, so I shouldn't have assumed you were talking about it with the others

This is ridiculous unless youre rendering at 4K. Flagship GPUs will render 100 FPS at 1440p in their sleep for most games, you wouldnt hear any difference or notice a temp difference. This is doubly true for anything older or indie. Ive got a 1440p monitor and a 3080, and when I replayed Bloodstained, I had to set a cap of 200 FPS in Nvidia Control Panel to keep it quiet, as by default it was running at like 600 something and causing coil whine.

Ya I do 4k gaming taget. These days its not native 4k tho because of dlss (which is like around 1440p on balance or quality). But it looks closer to 4k than native 1440p after some sharpening (around 0.5 or 0.6 out of 1) so im fine with it.

My system is 5 years old.

In an open-world game, I will go everywhere but the critical path. In Skyrim, I didn't visit the Greybeards for the first time until I'd logged about 700 total hours across three different characters. I've probably put 70-80 hours into TotK so far and have yet to do one of the four major settlements / temples (though I did stumble onto the Spirit Temple due to wandering around).

...actually, I guess that's not so much a 'sin' as it is 'the only correct way to play these games, you pitiful plebeians!'

It's a little bit extreme, but I respect it. On my current Skyrim playthrough I didn't visit the Greybeards until around level 30. My method is just wandering around and completely as many quests as possible naturally.

Save states is the only way I can beat a lot of NES and SNES era games.

I used cheese strats against Midir in Dark Souls 3 and Malenia in Elden Ring. I also use spirit summons in Elden Ring 95% of the time when available. Bloodborne, and Sekiro even moreso, feel too limited and makes me not care for them as much in comparison to their sibling games that emphasize more play style diversity.

Super Mario 64's overtuned momentum makes it very frustrating and I cannot appreciate its movement systems in the slightest.
