Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that the cleaning guy was able to make sapient robot friends out of parts of a satellite that were designed to control when a movie began or ended?

Mike was the superior host. Trace was the superior Crow.

This puts the best range of episodes from "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" to "Laserblast".

I started out with Mike, and thought Joel was just okay. I just liked Mike's energy more.

I also started with Mike. Alien from LA was my first experience back in the 90's.

A friend of mine back in the day was definitely more of a Mike fan. I didn't entirely get the premise back then. So it wasn't until I started watching old mst3ks on the youtubes for reasons. Mike has some great episodes but I liked the show as a whole better with Joel.

Joel just tied everything together better.

I like Joel's lines in the theater but never much cared for most of the ship segments with him.

I like RiffTrax and all, but I find Bill Corbett to be more annoying than funny

He was better as Crow/Brain Guy than as himself, but Trace was definitely superior

Granted the invention exchange was wacky, but I liked how Joel's skits tied into the movie usually whereas Mike's would just be whatever subplot often separate from the movie he thought was funny.

I never understood this.

There are plenty of Mike skits that are based directly off the movies, and there are plenty of Joel skits that were just random nonsense (WAFFLES!)

I'd argue it was roughly a 50/50 ratio for both hosts

That's why I didn't say it in such a declarative statement. But I just remember more episodes of Mike's that had nothing to do with the movie. Perhaps if someone went 1 by 1 for every episode the balance would be closer to 50/50 than I realized.

I still feel like the Joel episodes felt better overall. I'll stand by Joel lol

Also, Mike was hotter and didn't mind showing it off occasionally

Joel is more laid back, humble, and likeable. Mike is funnier and wittier to me.

Same here - my bias maybe from just having watched Mike first, though I think his self deprecating humor also resonated more than Joel's "being stoned" humor

Yeah, Mike's humor was much more pointed than Joel's "lol random" humor.

When I was a kid watching, I thought Mike got replaced by Joel as Mike episodes were how I was first introduced to the show. It wasn't until much later that I learned it was the opposite.

Personally still prefer Mike, but both are great.

I wanted to hear more about Joel's adventures managing the Hot Fish Shop in Osseo.
