I used to get them semi-regularly, as in several times a year.

Since my 30s, they have thankfully been a lot rarer. Once every several years, if that.

They are annoying, and can be very painful depending on where they are.

I used to get them monthly & multiple at a time, but ever since I swapped toothpaste to a brand that doesn't have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate it's not nearly as common. Now it's either when I get sick, or if I bite my lip/cheek.

Used to get them occasionally and yeah they sucked, think it's been a few years since I had one though. Not sure if I was using the wrong toothbrush or what but I'm glad I don't get them anymore.

Is that the one on the inside? Swish warm, salty water around it. It will feel better very quickly.

Yeah. I guess the salt and water like cleans it, or whatever? It also numbs it for some reason. I'm not a doctor. But it goes from "very stingy" to "I can tell it's there but it doesn't really hurt now"

Swishing salt water has never really helped with mine.

GranTurismo posted...

It's one of the causes - though different for everyone kinda deal. Was one of the things that I tried, and helped a lot. Almost always get them now if I use a foamy toothpaste.

Yes. When I had braces they were awful. They pop up if ever I have any irritation to my mouth (dentist, wearing retainers, sinus issues, burning my mouth on food).

I got them all the time in my teens. As an adult I don't get them at all unless it's from a mouth injury. biting my cheeks were a common occurance until I got my wisdom teeth removed.

ALL. THE FREAKING. TIME.

I literally have one right now.
Most of the time I get them because I sometimes accidentally bite the inside of my mouth while I'm eating. I've been looking for something to help prevent it. Someone once suggested wearing a bit over my teeth, though that's no good to me if it only happens when I'm eating, which I can't effectively do while wearing a bit.

Other than that, everyone I talk to about it ends up advising me to just try not to bite the inside of my mouth. Like it's something I'm doing out of indulgence or something, like nail-biting. It's not. I can't help it, and it's fucking annoying.

Never heard of it, but I'll look around if they sell it where I live. Is it supposed to speed up the healing process, or does it temporarily numb the pain? Because for the latter part I already use lidocaine.

Definitely the worst area. I once had one on the side of my tongue. It gave me a speech impediment for two weeks.

I used to drink a lot of OJ and I did. But now that I basically only drink water, I can't even remember the last time I had one.

Just avoid acidic foods/drinks or gargle listerine or something, often.

Yeah, acidic food/drinks tend to make it worse. Repeatedly reusing utensils without dishwashing them is also a surefire way to induce canker sores.

Put salt directly on the canker sore until it goes numb. Or buy vitamin C tablets and let them dissolve on the sore. I used to do that and it hurts a little but its worth no longer being able to notice it for quite awhile.

Yea I used to get them from eating S&V chips all the time. Dont get em anymore though. But like, I already had the canker sore, so adding more salt to it didnt make it like a super duper canker sore. It just made it numb while it healed.

Some tooth paste will fuck you up. There was this one specific "Crest" one that if I used would make my entire mouth "peel". Never used that shit again until forgetting about it and it happened again. Used probably 3 dozen types of toothpaste in my life and never once had an issue.

Yeah don't do that. That would actually make it take longer to heal. That's why most people would recommend a salt water rinse instead. Same effect. If you want numbing use clove.

I used to have this thing called Tea Tree Oil, that you just swab a Q Tip in, and then place it on whatever's ailing you, and it'd slowly numb it and I assume heal it.

Tasted like rotten asshole though. Like legit. Just absolutely horrid tasting.

I use to get them often when I was younger. Every minor cut in my mouth would turn into one.

Stopped getting them after I reached a point where I was able to eat regularly so I chalked it up to poor nutrition.

Doesnt matter if it takes an extra day to fully go away if you cant feel it at all since youve numbed it bud

But it doesn't stay numbed. You have to keep reapplying. Ud rather not go through unnecessary pain if I don't have to. I do a salt water rinse and they heal up just as quick.
