The cactus is adapted to survive the heat under normal conditions. But they normally wait for cooler temperatures at night to open their pores and breath. The temperature at night this year is still very hot, effectively suffocating the plants. Causing them to drop limbs, lean over, and eventually collapse.
Some of these plants have been alive for over a century.

They're supposed to be receiving rain soon around that area, hopefully that'll help out the poor cacti for now

It wasn't too long ago that Phoenix seemed like a great place to live and was rapidly expanding. Now, it seems like moving there means that you are literally going to die.

Oh I was joking lol

I don't imagine sending people out to the desert to dig up cacti to resell would be very profitable.

They'd almost certainly die in transport, but they're already dying right there where they are.

Actually, they do dig up and move them. I saw an episode of dirty jobs where they were doing just that. It's just a legal issue because you can't do it without a permit.

I am actually kinda suspicious of this picture. Since this is the monsoon season, so there is storms that would easily collapse a Saguaro. And while I doubt this is the case, most the time I seen a cactus collapse like that is due to too much water, since they store too much and get too heavy

That is not to say this heat is not a problem. Juvenile Saguaros and unsprouted seeds need cooler temps. So it is not the fully grown 100+ year old ones in danger but future generations. This local article goes into some more detail.

We have been getting rain for the past few weeks or so. It is the monsoon season, but most the time what happens is it is sunny all day and once the evening hits we get thunderstorms. Some are pretty bad, just last weekend over 50,000 people here in Tucson lost power due to the storms.

You would be surprised, there is actually a big problem with people poaching Saguaros and selling them on the black market. So much so that the National Park here has put trackers inside the most beautiful cacti

Very informative unsourced infographic.

I had three cacti in my Phoenix yard (not saguaros) like 5 years ago. They all died within a year of moving in, I guess because our irrigation system wasnt working.

for everybody saying "this seems dishonest" it is not. google search the subject. cacti are really dying due to heat. im still waiting for the "tree/plant expert" to return to the topic. he was in another topic about universal(?) or some movie studio cutting trees to screw over protestors, and he defended it until he was blue in the face saying it was "natural" but then when it was proven it was not he suddenly vanished. i feel like the same thing is happening here. dude is pretending he knows more than he does.

Sadly, the Vegas area may be in a little bit longer than that.
