or maybe they kill the antagonist but that was the wrong move because the antagonist was trying to do something good they just had to be antagonistic to do it

I'd be down for some stories like that, but generally they're not so popular. People want a story with an ending that makes them feel good and don't want to feel like they wasted their time.

You should read the mistborn series

This generally doesn't go over well with audiences. Think of anything with a sad ending like this and you'll see people claim it's bad writing because it made them sad.

You could play Blade Dancer on the PSP. I never finished it, it got too annoying but it had promise. I am actually not a grim person for visual media but I don't actually really want to see everyone lose, game over it's your fault.

Call me unsophisticated, but I generally can't stand bad endings. It makes everything else leading up to it seem kinda pointless to me.

Part of me wishes game of thrones ended with white walkers winning just see how that eorked out or a "bad ending"
