Got caught up in a deluge of other stuff, mostly movies...

Well I'm back, still in Alice's prison.

Upon returning to the game, it suddenly occurred to me: it's kinda weird the Velvet Room is even in this game.

I get the wildcard is iconic to Persona, but isn't this already a character action game where each thief has a twist on the moveset and gameplay? The devs probably could've just had Joker be the guy with dark elemental and it'd be fine.

I haven't fused any personas yet outside the tutorial, it's weird to slow down like that. In normal persona, the combat is turn based and thus slower and strategic, and the life sim chunk also encourages slowing down and planning. But in this game it's a bit odd to stop the action to figure out how to build out your personas.

I guess though, if the game lets you be rocking Lucifer and Vishnu in the last dungeon that'll be cool to see in this combat style

I have literally no idea how not to get hit. The "Troubling Housemaid" mini boss for example can turn around on a dime, and it's orb attack will straight follow my dodge dash and hit me for like 40% of the character's health + freeze

You are right. If you wanted to you could really ignore the Velvet Room for most of the game. Even if you do want to use it, it's a little more barebones and straightforward than it usually is. But it goes without saying it helps to have one party member that has a little bit of every type of skill just in case something like a specific weakness works best in a specific situation.

Yeah, game feels rough like that until you get the flow of minibosses and bosses. Especially the first dungeon. You either need to take them slow and really wait your chance to attack, or else just spam weaknesses as much as you can to stagger them. The game seems designed around wanting you to spam weaknesses as much as possible, even though it feels like it's going against the point of the musou-ish combat. But of course, then you need to more closely manage your SP too.

i was flailing around like an idiot until like the third dungeon lmao but eventually it clicked and i started really enjoying it.

Also, in case you didnt know, every character has a combo string that ends with them using one of their elemental attacks, and it doesnt cost sp. Incredibly useful in the early game when you have hardly any sp to work with

I am repeating myself but when I finish Royal. I am going to start over and try this again, but maybe on easy lmao. I wanted to Musou up this game. Square, Square, triangle over and over was not effective.

There is seriously some strategy in Dynasty Warriors, but Strikers employs a different strategy.
