It should have at least been 250 per tree. I feel like they got punished lightly just because they are a famous company. I bet a normal citizen would get fined per tree

That's equivalent to fining your average American a few pennies. Might as well not even bother issuing the fine if it's going to be that pathetically low.

To be fair, thats more than the profit on all the Harry Potter movies combined.

Theyre required to get a permit from the city to trim trees on their own property? Is that a thing for all residents of LA?

The sidewalk in front of your property (in all major American cities I think) is not your property. It belongs to the city.

Yup, those were city trees on public property.

It's absolutely shameful how little they were fined.

I wish whenever corporations broke the law instead of piddling nothing fines they instead got actually large fines that they actually would care about and on top of severe fines? I'd also like to see the CEO and every executive involved in the decision see minimum 30 days in jail, no bail. And I mean the same jail that the poors have to go to when they're there.

Perhaps we'd stop seeing these companies being so quick to break the law.

Needing a permit to trim trees that are on city property makes sense. The article in the OP says that the trees are on studio property, not on city property in front of the studio property. Thats why I was curious.

Wondering about tree trimming permit requirements for the city of LA is not somehow a right wing thing, surely you have to realize how deranged you seem when you say things like this.

Don't worry. It's not a real punishment anyway, just something to pretend to hold companies to the same rules. Pretty sure it cost more for them to pay their accountant to write the check.

So your concern for Universal is uneeded, they'll be fine. 250 bucks for spite isn't breaking their bank.

My post was not made out of concern for Universal, just curiosity caused by the inaccurate reporting in the article. There is really no need to try to make it into anything else.

just curiosity
Then the logical answer is that either the trees, the area the trees were, or some general agreement between Universal and LA makes the trees still city property and thereby still requires Universal to clear trimming through the city.

But I don't live in LA. You may have better luck calling LA city offices during hours tomorrow.

Course, the real take away isn't "why fine" but "why so little."
