had a lot of people in my family die (parents didnt have me til their 40s) so i'm no stranger to this kind of thing, but kinda really ate up about this even though she and i weren't close

she's 38 and has terminal cancer, they say she'll pass in the next few days if not tonight and have ordered that she get no food/water (she's not conscious and giving any to her is just making her ill, so the priority atm is comfort)

whats heartbreaking to me i guess is that she's basically just a big kid. she's got a pretty severe intellectual disability and one of the hallmarks of her disorder is being super friendly and having unconditional love for people. just one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet in your life, always trying to help and do anything she can for you (even if she's not really that capable, she's not too far from someone with down syndrome in terms of ability)

my wife's at the hospital with her a few hours away, says her sister wakes up every so often and cries before falling back asleep

just kinda devastated tbh

I'm sorry. That sounds rough.

I'm so sorry to hear about this TC :c as someone who has a younger sister who is basically a big child mentally, I don't want to imagine her leaving this world before I do. All you can do is be there for your family and hope that when her time comes, she'll go peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones.

I'm so sorry man. I know how that feels. My dad passed from brain cancer a little over 2 years agom he died at home in hospice after not eating or drinking anything for 4 days. It crushed me. At least he died in peace.

that is brutal. sorry you are having to deal with that, hopefully she can pass on in as much comfort as possible and surrounded by loved ones

I'm really sorry for your loss. I know it's small comfort, but it's good to remember the good times when you can; and that it hurts because the moments you shared are worth treasuring.
