Impeachment is a political trial, not a criminal trial. Civics should be mandatory if you're running for president, especially if you've already been president.

Because the Republicans don't want to bear the weight of owning the first president to be successfully impeached and convicted in the Senate.

Because Republicans liked how he made libs mad (with stupid policy suggestions, embarrassing gaffes, and flat out support of discrimination of "others") so they didn't vote to boot his ass out the door like any sensible person would have.

Not that at all. Trump is their last hope of winning voters. As much as Trump is hated, he's also loved, as shown by him getting 10 million more votes in 2020 than 2016. Ron DeSantis isn't doing that. Rick Scott isn't doing that. Marco Rubio isn't doing that. Ted Cruz isn't doing that.

Republicans have nothing but Trump. Problem is, Trump's also an anchor sinking the party. So their best play was to back Trump, slow their demise, and hope something else happens in the mean time.

What they should have done, was boot his ass from the party, convict him, turn their back on him, punt 2022 and maybe 2024, and then soft reset, hopefully stopping the crazies from taking over the party, and winning independents.

They chose poorly however, allowed the crazies to seep in, take power, lose all independent support, and now the party is all but doomed, because only 20 people in their entire party had any sort of backbone.

The Republican party from 2020 and 2022 is night and day. Hell, the party from January 6th and Feb 1st is night and day. 1/6 was a day of infamy from a majority of the party. By Feb, they latched onto the Antifa, FBI, Trump's innocent bullshit. Graham was 'done with him' and then back on his dick less than a month later. McCarthy put full responsibility on him, then was backing him a month later. Nancy Mace was tweeting how terrified she was on the 6th and then how it was a tour by Feb and begging for Trump's forgiveness.

There's no low the Republican party won't go, but in doing so, they've lost ground in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, while outright losing Michigan for the next several election cycles.

If not for a hyper partisan judge drafting an incredibly Republican gerrymandered map in NY, Republicans wouldn't even have the House right now. If not for the judges allowing the incredibly lopsided gerrymander in Florida, Alabama, among other states, Dems would have a 40-50 seat lead in the House.

For anyone curious, the "something else" was January 6th.

Na, this was post January 6th. I think they were hoping for something that would make their policies look better in contrast. Maybe high inflation, gas prices, something.

Remember, the first year of Biden's presidency was arguably a disaster. His ratings tanked due to the Afghan pull out (not much he could do, hell he even got an extension from the hard out date Trump and the Taliban agreed to), inflation skyrocketed, gas prices soared, and people were there blaming Biden, the media was running non stop this is a disaster presidency for about 9 months straight. Then slowly he started getting legislation passed, despite Manchin and Sinema crippling the bills, the Ukraine War happened, and while gas soared higher, the administration calling out the Russian plans, before it even started, garnered a big win for Biden, and got a majority of Americans to be on the side of Ukraine, for a little while at least. Then by the year and a half mark, Biden went full in with getting his agenda passed, got a bipartisan infrastructure bill, the first gun bill in decades, and a hefty portion of the BBB plan in the inflation reduction act, coupled with the pending Dobbs decision, Dems were looking incredibly good heading into the midterms, and did exceptionally well, retaining all their governor seats, winning multiple state legislatures, and increasing their seats in the Senate, even if by one. Only reason Republicans got the house was defying court orders to redistrict before the election, and the partisan judge in NY who flipped it to Republicans. Without that, Dems retain both the House and Senate.

Now you look, inflation has basically been curbed, gas prices are still high, but again, that's because of a bevy of other things, including the war. The economy is churning out insane numbers monthly, that even Fox can't spin them negatively. Biden's economy is even getting praised by Wall Street, the people who were most afraid of him and his agenda.

Republicans banked on Biden's presidency being a failure, and despite what Fox's talking personalities will say, there's nothing pointing to that. The economy is the best in the world post covid, inflation is at it's lowest among the top countries, and the job market is the best it's ever been. Biden has somehow managed to stabilize everything that got fucked due to Trump, Covid, Wars, and came out looking amazing. His approvals aren't high, but that's all opinion. When looking at the facts, this is arguably the greatest recovery since the great depression. Biden probably doesn't deserve all the credit, but we're in a country that heaps every ounce of blame or credit onto one person, so give him his due when he deserves it.

Pretty simple.

Do you have some data on that?

This isn't a snide insinuation or anything, I'd just like to see the numbers.
