Very unorthodox gaemplay, where you need to eat a certain amount of fruit to finish a level. However, there are multiple paths through a stage, containing multiple fruits. Depending on what your lucky fruit was randomly determined at the start of the game, certain fruits will be worth more points. Then, when you finish a playthrough, you get a combined score of all stages. It is a score attack game. After the initial playthrough, you can go through other levels (choosing a total of 6 per playthrough) and try to get the most points.

You also have to consider that certain color Yoshi�s like certain color fruits. Also, some edible objects make Yoshi unhappy, which will lower your score. There are also hidden hearts and Shy Guys to collect, which also boost your scoring options.

It�s really weird but I enjoy it. Only thing i dont like is the kind of unresponsive controls on the NSO version. Was it like this on the original controller? Never played this on the 64. I actually went my whole life thinking this was just a platformer.

I've never seen a game so thoroughly discourage a player from reaching the end of a level.

There is basically no gameplay whatsoever and the bosses are pathetic.

There was nothing stopping Nintendo from making a proper 2D Yoshi's Island sequel on the N64. Yes, the N64 is designed for polygons but it could do everything the SNES could.

My gmom loved this game. One of my best memories with her.

That said, your big points was to get all melons, and find three hearts in each stage.

Youre supposed to get only melons and get all 3 hearts to really master a level. Otherwise just eating the first 30 fruits you come across is real easy.

Better game than Yoshis Island. Fight me.

This. I was always annoyed as a kid that I couldn't continue to the end of the level. Made me feel like I was being cheated from seeing half of the game.

But that went against everything I had been taught by video games as a kid. Collect everything and make it to the end of the level. I need to give it another play as an adult. I might enjoy it more.

I liked it as a kid, but I haven't played it since being a kid. Not so sure I would like it so much now.

Story has the best music and sound design of all the Yoshi games. Probably why I think its the best. Its so charming.

Eh, I thought Yoshi's Story was decent (at best) than "bad". It's definitely a far cry from Yoshi's Island, sure, but I didn't have too much of a bad time with Yoshi's Story myself, especially since it introduced White Yoshi (my favorite Yoshi color).
