Concerns not addressed by Senators include that these might end up requiring users of the internet to provide their ID to every website for age verification eliminating anonymity online, and that these laws could be used to restrict access to LGBT+ material or otherwise silence their voices.

Time to download my porn now

If you use a VPN, does this affect us if we set it to another country?

Seems Biden might actually be supportive of it?

In his past two State of the Union addresses, President Joe Biden has insisted that Congress enact stronger online privacy protections for children. Taking a cue from the president in recent years, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have rolled out legislation to address his concerns. Obviously, the two bills passed Thursday have come out on top.

In any case it's a grim day when age restriction for websites pass first before stricter gun control passes. If anything it seems to be getting worse in some states.

Yeah easy to be callous with shit decisions that don't affect their day-to-day that benefits big companies. Then easy to follow your heart (personal needs) when it affects their hobbies, at the expense of a lot of deaths

Every single website should just ignore and refuse to abide by this illegitimate buolshit and anyone in congress that supports it needs to be removed from power permanently.

To be clear, this has passed out of committee, which means it could be included in a bigger bill (like the NDAA) or voted on in the Senate at any time. It has not yet passed the Senate itself, nor is it in danger of being signed into law right away (an identical version would need to pass in the House too). It's just important to be aware that it is moving closer and closer to that point so that you can contact your representatives.

Representatives are aware of the criticisms and have said they will work on them, but that probably doesn't mean much in the face of legislation so fundamentally flawed. I don't have any more information on what's going on with the other terrible internet bills like EARN IT either.

KOSA is to make sure any site that has "Child unsafe content" will be sued hard.

So say goodbye to porn and LGBT content on the Internet.

Nah, goodbye to the idea of paying heed to lawsuits or court orders.

People need to put their money where their mouth is and refuse to ever vote for anyone who signs onto this.

Complaining while still writing a blank check to the politician achieves nothing.

It just means the nigh-abandonment of the clearnet, leaving the "surface web" for retail and increasingly clickbaity "news" sites.
Everything else moves to TOR, then some other thing after that, once everyone remembers the US Navy made TOR.
