Like they're the most "boring" looking kid with nothing distinct about them but they just seemed to get bullied all the time, even if they move schools.

What gives?

Kids can be awful for the pettiest of reasons, or no reason, but if they moved schools, just being the "new kid" could be enough for the bullies to come runnin'.

Knew a guy who was bullied from elementary to Jr. High (when he switched schools). The bullying continued until a growth spurt in HS.

I've wondered the same thing, TC.

Was it simply perceived/actual inability to stand up for themselves?

Only two fights in my life were as the "new kid". Looking back, there was a definite effort to "challenge" in both cases because I never tried to stand out. Least of all as the new kid.

That'll do it.

By the time the third guy heard the story it was a brick wall.

If a kid even appears the slightest bit nervous/scared via the way they don't make eye contact for most likely anxiety reasons and/or the way they walk/talk/look and dress (man you do NOT want to be that kid that had a bowl cut because your kind of drunk uncle at the family gathering the day before school totally still thinks this is cool in 1995 (or was ever cool). A.k.a. my dumbass, lmfao! I got another haircut a day later after this bowl cut because of how bad I got ribbed about it) etc. other kids will notice that kind of thing asap. Unfortunately moving schools probably won't do much to change all this.

I guess its kind of similar if you are working a doordash or grubhub job and going to a neighborhood you are definitely not a regular in. If you see a group of dudes either sitting on the porch or standing around across the way and they say something to you, this is going either two ways. 1. Don't be nervous, just say whats going on back. If you get a light-ribbing just laugh along and say "you know it man". They are then going to be friendly/cool with you.

2 You act all scared about them talking to you. Glancing down, not making eye contact, never say whats up back and start speed walking. They are gonna' mess with you now, lol.

School is sort of like that. Life is just that way man.

Middle school/ages 13 and 14 imo is the most vicious. Some people is getting that fast puberty compared to others and there is going to be some unfortunate targets.

Now me? This is basically me in middle and highschool, ignoring the chaos around me:

This is anecdotal, but it also seemed that once a person got bullied by one bully, other bullies would follow.

Almost like smelling blood in the water.

It was because I was smarter, quiet and not assertive. They saw that and pounced. In middle school and early High school. I was part of the nerdy kids group but was kind of a odd one out. I had one friend in the group from my neighborhood so I hung around him. That connection made it worse. I still mostly was a loner though. It stopped after a dude just famous enough you might know him if you liked college football in FL in the 90's. I was in band so I was carrying my instrument home to practice. He kept pushing my back and I swung my instrument at his head and he dodged it. It stopped after that.

In Kinder & 1st grade I was a bully for some reason, honestly had no explainable reason for it (such as a troubled/broken home) and I can't recall any lame "justification" I may have had, so I guess I will just say I was a shitty kid initially. 2nd grade on I was a fat kid and was bullied heavily by my mom's family.

In 7th grade there were 8th graders who briefly bullied and manipulated me into fighting with another 7th grader over nothing but their word (was a very insecure and quick to anger adolescent), oddly enough after I "fought" that other kid, they started to actually talk to me and include me in things. And no I don't mean like they had me breaking into houses so their hands would be clean, they just included me in conversations and wouldn't get angry if I was around/selected me for flag football eventually.

I would like to state I wasn't really fighting for their approval or acceptance, I had plenty of friends and oddly enough the "goth"/metalheads were small, yet friends with everybody, so it wasn't like the preppy popular dudes trashing on the weird goth kids clich because most of them were friends since elementary (I entered that school from a different district and knew nobody). Nobody bullied the metalheads at that school, which is like the opposite portrayal in pretty much any media.

The only bullying I encounter these days are from trolls & right-wingers in comment sections, which is whatever lol
