Maybe lower their absurd prices?

I know this is anecdotal, but I'm looking at restaurants in my area for example selling shrimp baskets (6 fried shrimps and a side of fries) ranging from 16 to 20+ dollars. My favorite restaurant in the area I stopped going a few years back for that very reason. $20 on a shrimp basket is insane. Price used to hover around 10 to 12, but now it's 20 for the same portion.

Chipotle is another favorite I still go to from time to time, but I've noticed their portion sizes have definitely been reduced. Especially if you order online and go pick it up. Yet the burrito price went up I think last year or the year prior.

I know, anecdotal, but I feel like restaurants around me have raised their prices AND reduced portion sizes. Customers tend to notice.

Only time we go out to eat is if we are on vacation. And even then we get a villa with a full kitchen so we have breakfast and dinner in the room.

Taking a family of 4 out to eat is expensive as fuck. And it takes a lot of time. If you get in habit of cooking you can whip stuff up quick. Heck its summer, burgers on the grill is quick and easy. And even if you buy the better quality burgers its still much less expensive than a restaurant.

I'm surprised the numbers are as high as that article states. The average Gen Z is going out to eat 215 times a year (more than four times per week), and that's killing the industry? The fuck...

Side note, I find it a lil funny they can't make up their minds about the Gen Z and Millenials.

One moment they claim in articles we are broke because we spend all of our money on Starbucks and avocado toast, the next there's articles crying we are killing industries for not spending enough.

These people can't pick a lane.

It's just too expensive. The average restaurant charges about $15 for a meal, and then 20% is like the minimum tip now instead of the 10% it used to be. Basically expect $20 for a traditional restaurant

Why would I go to a restaurant for a $20 sirloin and $10 cocktail, when I could load up YouTube, learn the process of preparing both (if i don't know how) and for half the cost.

Like I haven't been to Starbucks in years. I invested in about $150 of machine and accessories, and started home brewing my own syrups which are better tasting and healthier than Starbucks. A $7 latte costs me less than a dollar to make at home.

Like restaurants don't have the leverage they use to where your general cooking skills are limited to your parent lessons. YouTube has been incredibly freeing in food prep and home repair for me. I fixed my dryer with a $20 part and an hour of time. If I had hired someone, it was $300. Restaurants are just facing the same shit

It is so much better in the EU where you're not constantly bombarded by the wait staff in an effort to get you out as fast as possible. You get your food then you're allowed to just hang and chill with the community for hours on end. Even after you've finished your meal and occasionally order drinks or snacks here and there.

In the US, it's all about speedrunning the eating process so that waiters get more opportunities for tips. Translates into a shitty eat-in experience.

So many angles that wage stagnation fucks people over.

I live in utah. There was also a fee for going through the drive thru. The sales tax is 6.5%. Everything here has gone up in price. Can't even rent a basement apartment without proving you have at least 36 months of rent and financial statement prepared by a cpa. The pet fees were outrageous too. Just because it's 23.13 where you live doesn't mean it is anywhere else.
