I have applied for a foreman/service leader position in a company that is in competition with the company I'm at now. I have previously worked as a technician, so that covers the backstory. (I notified my current company about my ambitions, but they are full)

I have had two sets of interviews with the service leader who needs another service leader to handle the extra incoming workload and to grow the company.

The first was with a technical field support guy + service leader
The second was with the head of the department + service leader

I think both interviews went pretty well. After the first interview the service leader called me back after just 3 hours and told me I made a good impression and that he wanted another interview with his boss. The second interview I was less sure if I did good, but the head of the department said "I have no objections, but it's you who is going to work with him, so it's your decision". The service leader said he felt we had good communication, so he was positive. That was maybe a month ago.

About a week after I was contacted by a woman from HR who asked me a couple of questions. I was driving at the time, but I think I answered her questions ok.

I sent a message two weeks after that, asking if they have decided anything yet and asked for an update. They told me that they were sorry for not keeping me informed and that things move slower because of summer, but that they would have an answer around the 25th.

It's still around the 25th, so I'm just waiting patiently, but: What does the HR do when checking up on me and why does it take a month? I guess they need to call my references, but that shouldn't take long, right?

Maybe background checks. I can't imagine they would be doing on-boarding paperwork without telling you they hired you and you not having filled anything out.

Maybe looking to see what salary would fit in their budget but that wouldn't be HR unless it's a small company or something maybe.

My guess is they are getting their ducks in a row and used it as an excuse.

It looks like you guessed right. At Thursday they called my references (some of them called me back and notified me) and yesterday they got back to me.

I got the job!!!
