Current Events > Played the Nintendo Switch for the very first time today.

Was at Target, shopping for a camera and saw that they had a playable Switch. Had time to spare, so I played demos of Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey, Mario 3D World, Kirby Return to Dream Land and Breath of the Wild.

It was pretty fun. Maybe I'll get the OLED model at the end of its lifespan; prices should be much lower, then.

It won't be. The base model switch is still selling for the full $299 and First party IP's are still $55-$60 each

This, Nintendo despises the idea of ever lowering their prices, I swear back when the Wii U and 3DS were still in production while the Switch was in it's early none of those games prices went down.

The days of buying a console for cheap at the end of the lifespan is done. The companies want you on the new platform so that incentive isn't there anymore. It's not limited to Nintendo either.

At most you can get a deal in the second hand market.

Have you played a PS5 yet or are you waiting till 2030?

Nintendos next console needs to be much better than the current console. There is no excuse why they are still running 4gb of memory, when most programs require 8gb to run.

I don't usually recommend emulation with newer consoles, but the switch is my exception. Nintendo have been assholes the past few years when it comes to their lack of hardware updates, and their games becoming more expensive, while their original line-up of Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey and the like still being full price 6 years later. They write it off because its premium, but even Doom 2016 is discounted down to 30 CAD, if not lower and that was beyond premium.

Wish I could fall in love with the Switch all over again
