I usually do normal on a first play through, and then if I feel like raising the difficulty in a later play through i do.

I always start on hard and if it gets to a point where I cannot progress, then I will bump it down. I think that has only happened once though. usually I can find a cheese strat after so long

Hard usually isn't hard enough. Need higher modes like nightmare, inferno, maniac, bunny extinction

Those who played the original US release of DMC3 got kicked in the balls by that game's "normal" mode, which was actually the Japanese hard mode.

Normal, and then Hard if I feel like it's getting a little dull or easy. This relates to rpgs mostly I suppose, but never anything higher than Hard. All Madden can go back to the Hall of Fame and stay there. I was never going to try a a difficulty higher than All Pro.

Plus it's hilarious how difficult the computer can be at the highest level in say a dumb/bad game like Mario Party 10. They just "KNOW" where to go before the player has a time to react haha

Depending on the game and how they decide to implement difficulty settings, it can be a very different gameplay experience rather than the same game but easier/harder

Normal but if it's too easy then I play on hard mode.

For example: I always play TMNT IV: Turtles in Time on hard mode because normal is way too easy.

easy 90% of the time bc in most of the games i play (rpgs), a harder difficulty just adds needless frustration or a steeper level of grinding

im not averse to difficult games, i love roguelikes and have 100% in most of the souls/elden ring, but most rpgs idea of difficulty is to just make everything an everlasting damage sponge

Normal/default for my first run. Put it at the easiest if I play it again in the future.

I will turn it down from the start for something like an FPS where I'm just going through it for the story.

if it's like a simulator or sports game, I lean towards harder difficulties.

Fighting games, probably normal, medium until I get a real feel for it.

rpgs normal/medium. I don't really play those out of the...sport of overcoming challenge. That's just to see the story pan out, but easy difficulty can sometimes be a bit insulting like there was no point to actually pick up the controller.

Competing every night, both ends, shoot inside/outside, fast break, transition, Monta Ellis have it all

You know whats really insulting? When I died on narrative difficulty in Mass Effect because I got cocky and wasn't even paying attention, just face tanking everything. Honestly didn't even realize it was possible at that setting.

It does get to the point where ya just watch a silent lp or something. Save that money. I don't like puzzles game mostly and just decided to watch a Catherine LP. Sure part of me wished I played it, but I was really stressed out and felt like playing it on easy or lower would just defeat the purpose of it.

I usually play on normal then play the other difficulties for fun or to get other stuff. Hard in most of the games I played just deprive you of stuff like having less bullets or items. The ai is a bit better. Or there are more enemies what ever. While it is harder I just feel more deprived of stuff so after getting through it unless I enjoy the game play on the harder modes I'll just go back to normal.

Playing through on hardest mode with infinite stuff though is usually my main stay if that is available.

I usually start with hard.

That means, 3 out of 3, or 4 out of 5 in most cases.

If I play games I want to be focused on them, and not so easy that my thoughts can wander off all the time.
