I'm definitely seeing more advertisements for Barbie over Oppenheimer. Commercial after commercial after commercial with Barbie. Never seen anything like it. May be a long-term pop culture icon from here on out

Oppenheimer wins on memes though and also currently has better review scores.

Hollywood Summer hits are back!

No surprise Barbie has a wider general audience appeal so of course it's going to make more on the BO, plus it helps that it's a really good movie. Oppenheimer is going to be winning a ton of awards though. Fucking chilling movie.

I think a lot of families thought it was going to be a kid's flick and were surprised when it wasn't. I don't think a Barbie 2 would be as successful because of that.

For me it was okay. About a 7.9/10.

I was expecting more comedy, but it really got political in the middle. I wasn't into that. It's good for women though, now they have their movie where they can relate.

Mission Impossible 7 has a high score too but lower box office numbers. Barbie just appeared to be more kid friendly.

Seems like all the big movies this year except for Disney shit have been commercial successes. I mean Disney had a few come through, but most if not all the flops have been from them.

Cinemascore measures how much a film matches up to the image that its marketing created. A high score means that audiences got what they were expecting out of it.

At this pace SoF will make more than MI and Indy. Nothing wrong with the movie, but I fear how its fanning fires of the culture wars withing the crazy conspiracy theorists.

I think the movie is pretty funny, and even if you don't care about Barbie dolls, as long as you know about them, you should be able to understand the general humor.

Its social commentary isn't going to be anything that I'm sure you haven't heard before. I would argue the commentary you hear in the movie is probably as deep as the ship of Theseus when a movie tries to become philosophical. It's not really subtle either, so your brain doesn't really have to work too hard for the messaging. Some might prefer both of those things considering Blockbusters don't generally have a chance to have social commentary for feminists outside of "GIRL POWER!" and this way, people can't act obtuse about the messaging.

I don't want to portray the paragraph above as a bash, but more so, if you are the type of person who likes to contemplate a movie's messaging, and really have deep discussions about the meaning of the movie, I don't think this movie gives that opportunity. This movie is more about being a firm deconstruction and reconstruction of Barbie.

As mentioned, I did think it was pretty funny too. My personal favorite character was Ryan Gosling's Ken.

Let's not use that as a measure because Sound of Freedom has like an A+ and 100% rating among audiences. Not saying its bad but people are turning movies as a political fight.
