In corporate acquisitions sometimes both the acquired company and the parent can both be collateral. Twitter's material assets weren't really worth much and it was going private so he couldn't use it as security. The idea of using X as a brand has been around for centuries. You know why no serious business has tried it? X in mathematics is a variable that can mean anything and some might try to tell you that it means unlimited potential. But to a consumer with a small attention span, what it means is that you have no identity and dont stand for anything at all. Its a self own that everyone other than Elon can recognize. Its why he was told to fuck off over 20 years ago when he tried to rebrand PayPal into the exact same thing.
