Kinda sucks that one dudes racist song has all the usual types rewriting history.

Acting like Jerry Reed did minstrel shows says a lot about a person.

This topic is still going. Just to clarify: I actually love country music. Far from everything but some songs are amazing.
I posted the video because it's hilarious and it needed to be done because of the title.

The key to enjoying country music is to completely ignore every single artist played on country radio and to seek out the artists who are actually making country music.

True, especially since the formulaic hacks who write songs for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande are the same formulaic hacks who write songs for Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line

Radio friendly "country" is just southern pop. 99% of it is compete garbage. I used to say all the songs sound like they were written by a committee, but now AI works. Keywords: Beer, Jesus, dirt roads, love, God, guns, etc. Anything that can make some simple minded southerner/rural person go "they're just like me!".

There's many country artists who are good, non bigoted people. Saying country as a whole is racist because of the assholes is like saying rap music is antisemitic or sexist against women because of some of the asshole rappers.

Most country music isnt racist, though there are some (hank Williams Jr sadly is on that list and grew up listening to him). Most modern sadly does suck as well, cause most of it doesnt have the heart behind it, there is no substance. Ive gotten to the point where I feel most the other songs on the CDs that dont become hits are better than their radio releases.

And Im wonder how someone could say waiting on a woman by brad paisley is sexist, when the whole song is about how waiting on her is always worth it. Honestly Im more surprised Im still a guy doesnt get more flack though. And hes one my go to artists.

Snoop and Willie Nelson hang out a bunch

The "I have a black friend" defence is handled, then ;)

Nah, just kidding. I actually had to research Willie Nelson after I saw this topic, because I listen to him. Apparently the song Beer for my Horses with Toby Keith has been drawn into the discussion about racist songs because of these lyrics:

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas find a tall oak tree
Round up all them bad boys, hang them high in the street
For all the people to see

&

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
Too much corruption, and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down
You can bet he'll set 'em down

Willie Nelson responds to the allegations that there were no racism implications from their side and that he wouldn't have joined the song if there was. I choose to believe him :)

When I hear this song I just imagine old western movies and stuff from Red Dead Redemption, where it's basically white guys getting hanged, so I never thought that it could be construed as racist. Just reflecting on it now, if it was an artist that had a racist history, I could totally see this being something to be wary of.

I think it's important to look at history of the artist to understand the possible intentions. I don't think Willie fits the description for it to be a racist dog whistle.

Gangster is mainly the old school mafia and mob type people. Sometimes the old western cowboy types as well.
