How is the creation of the atom bomb "boring" though? It's one of the most interesting and impactful events to ever occur in human history.

the entirety of it was filmed on large format 65mm film stock and will be projected to 70mm
also extremely star studded cast
also the plot isn't boring

I just dont get all the hype with Opprenheimer. It just centers around a scientist working on the nuclear bomb. That's it...?? I watched the trailer and 50% of the time were just spent on showing CGI fireworks. Like wtf, who cares.

What the hell. What's so interesting? Yet I see the media drool all over it like it's the next big summer hit or something. Why? Just because Nolan made it?

And since when were WWII movies ever a hit with anyone??? The only ones that ever stood some change were WW2 war movies but even that genre is dying since it's become over-used like hell

It marks the beginning of countries having absolute authority over the world. Its horrifying so people like it? Im seeing it in 5 hours!

1. Not CGI
2. True 70mm single-laser IMAX
3. Lengthy sex scene

I'm not that big on Nolan as an auteur, but I will say that my morbid fascination with atomic explosions paired with his Nolan's particular style might just be a match made in heaven.

"Cool explosions!" doesn't get much better than fuckin' atom bombs.

It's based on a book, American Prometheus, which itself has received good reviews.

And I agree with above posters that Nolan makes good movies.

how is it not boring? It's a WWII to Cold War drama. I dont recall the last time any such drama got so much limelight. But suddenly Nolan makes it and it becomes every media's wet dream?

I've made the joke, we kind of know the ending. One huge explosion. Getting there is whats intresting.

Not sure if this topic is serious, but lots of people have always enjoyed movies (or any other media) about consequential people and events in history. And the development of the nuclear bomb is one of the pivotal events in the entire human race. Human society has changed forever because of it.

There is zero surprise this movie will do well, even before considering that Nolan is directing a cast of popular actors in the endeavor.

Scientists weren't entirely sure if detonating the bomb would light up the oxygen in and the air and kill the planet. Like... they literally weren't sure even as they were getting ready to push the button. Someone had a finger on the button to end the world and had to make the call to push it and hope for the best.

Then you had everyone after the test realizing what they had done and trying to put the monsters back into pandora's box.

And then you have Oppenheimer himself, a fascinating blend of brilliance, pride, and regret who has one of the most haunting moments to ever have aired on television:

If you think it's just "they built a bomb" then you more than anyone should go see the movie because one of the most pivotal moments in history happened within the lifetime of people currently on this planet and there's so much human drama around it that you owe it to yourself to learn about it.

Seriously tho, if I was in charge of making a new calendar, the Manhattan project would be Year 1.

They definitely said those things however it's up for debate if they actually believed it or if they were just trying to convince the government to abandon the project because they knew how destructive it would be.

Edit: and regardless, whoever made the call to move forward, did so under the belief that there was a chance it would destroy the world.

Murphy was the only thing that made Inception watchable and I legit don't understand how he wasn't Oscar nominated for it.

Meanwhile he watches Lone Survivor like 1-3 times a day every day for a year. A movie, literally about getting your butt kicked, but it's a US soldier surviving only after being helped so it's ok.

I kinda see what TC means.
It doesn't seem to be high on actions, romance, or mystery. Only drama.
Some people might find it boring.
