One time I was waiting at a red and it turned green while I was fiddling with the radio and as I looked up an SUV going about 50 blew through the intersection. Had I not spent those 2 seconds with the radio while it was already green I probably would have been t-boned.

Even if the guy next to me is driving a better car, no one seems to actually just hit the gas on green.

I live in a city where people are CONSTANTLY running red lights and acting like you're the jackass for wanting to go on your own turn.

I've almost been hit multiple times for trying to pull through an intersection on a green light, so you bet your ass that I'm going to wait and make sure that car coming up on my left is actually stopping first.

Because there's always that hance someone runs a red light. A few seconds wait ensures a person going on green doesn't get hit by a red light runner.

They always out themselves in these sorts of topics. You'd be surprised at how comfortable CEmen are with brake checking.

That video massively overexaggerated the braking (the cars basically full stopped every time the red car changed lanes), but having a gap between cars is perfectly reasonable.

I don't know if you're underestimating how small 50 feet is, or if you think everyone should be tailgating. At 35 mph, 50 feet is actually likely to cause an accident if someone stops suddenly.

Yeah 50 is probably too small. Point is, if I can fit 5 of my vehicles into your gap, you're not keeping up with traffic and I'm going to pass you in that gap.

For me it's not road rage, I just don't understand why it happens so often. A lot of people keep mentioning that they're waiting to make sure that there's no one running a red light, but this kind of thing still happens even when there's too much traffic for that to be a risk.

But then, there's lots of things that drivers do that don't make sense to me. Like coasting at 40 mph on a long freeway on ramp, instead of getting up to 65 mph before trying to merge.
