The backstory is just needlessly complicated and it's absolutely silly how much of it is only revealed through Tomes as you progress the story.

There's some more that gets revealed at the end in the final showdown with Ultima so I won't mention it yet because it's still spoilers for you.

One thing that kind of annoyed me is how it's like "Yeah all this shit took place thousands of years ago" meanwhile in-game it's the year like 873 and there's no explanation for what caused Year 0!

Sleipnir was his Egi, the same as the two wind elementals/harpies Benedikta could summon forth. When Barnabas becomes Odin, Sleipnir transforms into the horse (which is accurate to Norse mythology just minus a pair of legs).

And of course another thing this game didn't answer is if that was an ability unique to the two of them or like, did someone like Jill actually have the ability to summon an Egi and not know it?

Hm I thought I recalled even one point that Joshua was a manifestation of Clive's grief but I probably just really misheard that.

I absolutely loved my time with the game.

One thing is I do feel like all of Ash was overly developed with how little there was to actually do in that area. I bet that whole place is gonna be the focus of a Cid related DLC to explain his story of leaving his position and such.

Cid's almost last words to Ultima during the first crystal cracking make me think that the reason he left was because he figured out just who was behind Barnabas.

I give it a 9/10.

I think the combat could have leant itself to more interesting encounters and use of your abilities.

I never even once jumped into Shiva, Bahamut, or Odin's talent trees at all. I switched off Ramuh for Titan but otherwise, the game never really gave me reason to stray. It was fun, but it could have also been more challenging and rewarding.

Some of the MMO style questing also felt very dated.

Yeah that's exactly the reason as far as I can tell. Dude figured out at least some of what was up and bailed.

Shiva's circle dodge is pretty much broken. Most enemies, even bosses, will freeze for a few seconds if you do a critical dodge using circle instead of R1.

Don't need a broken ability obviously. Lol!

I mean I know part of the narrative does need to show how much of a badass you are so you should straight up bully most opponents.

Seconding this. Odin is also VERY fun to play with: you feel like the most badass of samurai.

But I will also admit that it's really hard to take Phoenix and Garuda off my bar. Their Feats are just too fucking useful, and I love Gouge and Flames of Rebirth, too.

For the record, I have not beat the game yet (just got Odin), but I intend to finish this weekend. I took a lull after awhile, but now I really want to finish it.

I think you missed out, Odin in particular is quite OP. Bahamut I used Gigaflare upgraded cause it does a slow down time thing that just adds more DPS. Lightning Rod, Rime, Will O Wisps, Level 5 Zenkatsuken or whatever the hell it's called and one Gigaflare basically ended enemies in stagger. Like 130k+ of damage lol.

Garuda was the first one I got rid of. Once I got my fourth one I figured time to ween off that circle of Garuda's cause frankly I thought the titan super fast punches was better than Gouge, and I hated the circle move when you didn't need to drag a bigger enemy down. Think I ended with Phoenix, Odin and Ramuh cause I do love Ramuh's moveset.

I thing the game can be summed up in having very high highs with some very low lows and thats what kept it from being 90+ on metacritic. Good thing is that the ingredients are all there, they just need to modify them.
