The judge seems to be juggling competing interests. The election, these cases typically taking a long time, and not giving Trump the ability to be judge and jury if he wins and makes the trial go away.

Theoretically, if you treat Trump like any other person for these charges, the trial would be after the election. I don't think she's interested in that based on today.

This is exactly why I think a guilty verdict is inevitable. Sentencing aside, this case seems bulletproof.

Even a corrupt judge like Cannon likely can't stop this, and maybe barely delay at best.

Aside from the initial, impulsive denial, not even his staunchest defenders claimed he was innocent of possessing the documents. They quickly pivoted to whataboutisms because they knew he was dead to rights.

It honestly doesn't even matter what she's interested in. The moment she tries anything even remotely biased, Smith will go over her head to appeal and have her removed from the case.

I doubt anyone even considered it being a possibility until Trump came along. The man exposed many, many cracks in our system that went unseen because the people who designed the system assumed those wanting to head it would act in good faith.

I think he's more tied up in the jan 6 investigation and not so much the classified documents investigation. And I'm pretty sure he's fucked right now if he doesn't start talking.

He most likely got his own target letter because he came in to talk to the Special Counsel last week. Typically you would only do that when there was an understanding that nothing you said would be used against you.

Speculation is that because he was brought jnto the fame so late that he has narrowed the aperture of the indictments to Trump only. Because if there are more defendants there is exponentially more likelihood of delay.

Basically the more clowns, the bigger the circus.

• March 25th, 2024 - Criminal trial in Manhattan, brought by Manhattan AG Alvin Bragg. 34 felony counts
• May 20, 2024 - Criminal trial in the southern district of Florida, brought by Jack Smith. 37 felony counts related to the stolen classified documents

And then we're still waiting on federal indictments for January 6th as early as next week, and then indictments in Georgia in the next 28 days or so.

A few possible issues with Judge Cannon in this regard that may have caused her to do that:

• She might be the one of the most inexperienced judges in the country and may not understand the complexities involved
• She might be looking to repair her reputation after her ridiculous antics with delaying the criminal investigation on Trump's behalf

I wouldn't be surprised if she's getting a lot of counsel from other judges on how to handle things so she doesn't get kicked off the case.

I pray this bastard rots in jail. If not it will be horrible for the US.

This stuff is also gonna be taking up a ton of news cycles in the middle of all that, so it's gonna be hard for the RNC to even have other candidates gain any attention.

They've had a plethora of opportunities to separate themselves from Trump. All they have done is latch onto him even harder at every turn, and this is the result. There's a possibility that Trump will be a defendant in 5 or more different trials going on in the next year and a half to two years.

Yes. Both parties have some kind of mechanism to ignore primary elections. Not sure what the GOP version is but the DNC can decide to count only the superdelegates.

Falsification of business records. It's partially related to the Stormy Daniels hush money payment that he tried to cover up. He basically lied to NY tax authorities in his tax filings in that regard, but that's just one of many of many charges.
