There was a time where knew a ton about this game, but that was thirteen years ago. Now, it'll be fun revisiting some of these places and quests before I inevitably remember how to break the game. I've already made Cyrodiil's newest savior:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/5/5/AABhrNAAEqf_.jpg

Probably just gonna dick around until I get enough power to do Shivering Isles.

I had to google where Rockmilk Cave was, since that's where I usually go for easy loot to make my dude less...perforatable. I knew the name had "milk" in it, haha. Could've sworn it was in the NW somewhere, but maybe I was thinking of a different cave.

Ahh yes, the old "save your potions by waiting one hour" trick. I'm gonna train my dude in Restoration, but he only has the beginner spell, so it's not going that well. Could've sworn that spell costs decrease as you level up the discipline...maybe it's just the 25/50/75/100 milestones...

I forget what this guy's deal is. It's nice to see Bruma again, though, since it's a wrecked PvP area in ESO. I vaguely remember where to go in town.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/6/0/AABhrNAAEqsk.jpg

This dude attacked me in the "Two Sides of the Coin" quest over what amounted to 20 gold and some pots and pans. Hope it was worth it. If I'd waited to do it, maybe the levelled loot wouldn't have been trash-worthy.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/6/1/AABhrNAAEqsl.jpg

Tempted to go in right now, but I can't remember if I can easily get back out, so I'll hold off...temporarily. Good to see Uncle Sheo's voice again. (Yes, I see voices. I'm not crazy.)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/6/2/AABhrNAAEqsm.jpg

Did some random fort dungeon and, because I had a silver sword, all the undead stuff were a lot easier. Even that damn wraith couldn't touch dis.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/6/3/AABhrNAAEqsn.jpg

My silver sword later broke in this pincer ambush, so I had to get...creative.

I just followed this video to get started. He tries to make it as simple as possible which it is but you still have to get familiar with some stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fMoSaproYI

Once you get set up and get familiar with how things work it becomes incredibly simple. I am currently flying through adding mods to the game for a complete overhaul. I am mostly just following this guys mod list / install guide which comes highly recommended across the Oblivion community:

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/?tab=description

If you are playing an Orc you for sure need this:

https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44676/?

The guy talks about it in part 2 of the guide video. It is also on the mod list.

Hmm, I kinda want to play with mods, but if I do every questline, I probably won't bother with a second replay for a long while. Maybe I'll just get overpowered and do Shivering Isles or something. I think I used to go get some Daedric swag (Umbra?) and wreak havoc that way. I'd prefer to do the fun new playthrough on a mage, though...

At bare minimum grab graphical mods. Even if the characters will still have the potato face going on the game really does have the ability to look much better. They also have the benefit of generally not being that hard to install as unless you overwrite the exact same areas over and over (for whatever reason) they don't conflict at all.

Though your playthrough after that should definitely be Skyblivion. Even after getting hacked they've got a 2025 release date, so it'll be pretty hype.

Friends,

I saw a post about Jumping everywhere, and I bust up. YES, I do remember that.

That was a good game. I assume no remaster for ps4. thats a shame.

What was funny was the voice acting, like 5 voices for the ENTIRE game.

I remember getting vampire, and I would hide in a cave. I could not go anywhere,
and none of the shops were open during the day. I had to start over, and be
super careful after that.

thank you for sharing.

I'll do some screens since I didn't post anything today.

First, is this one wood elf guy with the scripted encounter as you approach the Kvatch refugee camp. He runs off afterward and I didn't think much about it...until I later encountered his dumb ass getting ripped apart by timberwolves. Twice. I babysat him all the way to Anvil's dockside bar, just to make sure our precious NPC population didn't dwindle.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/2/AABhrNAAEq7w.jpg

I forgot about the casual racism in the game, haha. To be honest, I'd much rather having NPCs with actual (usually stupid) opinions and rough edges than some sanitized "we all get along" drivel. That said, Bosmer are probably my least-favorite race to play as in ES games, so I'm not going to go to bat for them very often. Don't get me started on the Green Pact cannibalism...

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/3/AABhrNAAEq7x.jpg
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/4/AABhrNAAEq7y.jpg

While I was bodyguarding for that Kvatch elf, I wound up doing some Fighter Guild quests, including one to find thieves in some pawn shop. It was a tough fight (took a few tries since I don't have enchanted weapons) but I eventually got by with a little help from my friends (and by friend, I mean paralysis poison). All the would-be looters just spawn outside the pawn shop on the appointed day, too, with permanent 0 disposition and the same race-tweaked line to repeat. Reminds me of those pirates at the Waterfront who say "ain't got nothin' to say to ya, fancypants" -- one of Oblivion's classics.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/3/5/AABhrNAAEq7z.jpg

Did Azura's quest to get my Star and had to tough it out against some vamps in the crypt. It sure is harder to do quests when you don't get Umbra at LV1, haha. (Although now that I know it's Clavicus Vile's quest, I'm going to go cheese that immediately.) Gotta say, though, I do prefer calm, kind, sweet Azura of Skyrim and ESO instead of stern, angry, possibly wrathful Azura -- voice-wise, anyway.

Now that I know this laptop can play Oblivion fairly well, I kinda want to replay New Vegas, too, haha. I can play both that and Oblivion on my 360 if I really wanted to, but I don't feel like finaggling my weird disc drive, finding the controllers/batteries, etc. Might even have Morrowind from OG Xbox that I can play with backwards compatibility...maybe.

I keep vacillating between modding and doing a normal style. If I mod, though, I'd probably do a bunch of stuff instead of just updating the aged graphics, which I don't mind in the first place. After hearing nightmares about people's load order and mod compatibiilty and stuff, I'm a little gun-shy about it.

Frankly I feel like most of that is more meme than actually real. As someone who heavily mods TES as rule I have never really had any issues ever. Certainly I've had issues, but most of the time it's because of a specific mod being bunk rather than any issues with mod incompatibility and the like (such as this one Skyrim mod that added a town with so many objects that it would tank the FPS the second the area loaded). Oblivion is no different and beyond the set up time (of which if you have 100+ mods it's a thing) I didn't really have any issues going throughout the game. Especially at this stage, as most of the garbo mods have long since been buried in the market of popularity + any incompatibilities for the relevant mods have been hashed out what with Oblivion being that old.

LOOT must be the loader or whatever the term is. Good to know most of those issues are gone, at least.

NPCs like this make me wish I was playing as a mage, especially since I moved my swag into Frostcrag Peak (the wizard tower) house. Mostly it was to dump alchemy ingredients that were piling up, but I powered up one altar and got my bedroom fixed.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/1/7/AABhrNAAErLJ.jpg

Another reason to do magic would've been killing Umbra a little easier. This time, since I maneuver like a two-legged mudcrab and only know Restoration magic, and my archery skill completely blows, I decided on a new strategy: lure the swordswoman up to the gas trap and paralyze her. Luckily, I got my new staff from the college, so I just let the Ayleids work their magnificent magic (proverbially) on her. Sucks to suck!

Things took a dire turn for my modding. I got all the graphical mods and etc working fine but then in adding the adult mods my game is completely fucked up now when I try to do sex scenes. Basically have no functionality on adult mods right now and I am essentially looking for a needle in the haystack to fix it. RIP I may have to play the game in a non-immersive manner.

Sex scenes in Oblivion? Can't imagine how that would go unless there's a full-scale voice revamp. Although, adapting some of the stupid dialogue might be a little more puckish. I'm sure there are variations on the classic Dunmer yell "Why! Won't! You! Die!!" that could have a naughtier spin, haha.

Anyway, I'm still puttering around, mostly doing University quests for no real reason. I got my Armorer stat up to LV50, so I can repair Umbra and other magical swag, but no other big news 'sides that. If I need gold for repair kits, I can just loot the apples from Fort Farragut and sell 'em for 3000 a bushel (roughly). I'm sure Lachance'll forgive me for letting those beauties out into the wild.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/6/1/AABhrNAAErmZ.jpg

I think we all remember this room: some plot NPC asks you to follow and he runs forward...right into a spike trap on the ceiling. I'm sure there's all kinds of hijinx that can result from leading enemies to this room when you're at a low level (assuming the dungeon's accessible). With Umbra in tip-top shape, though, very few enemies are that difficult and I've been able to take on 2-4 at times, especially if they're squishier necroconjurer types.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/6/2/AABhrNAAErma.jpg

Got a bit of a laugh outta this character. She did acknowledge that Daedric Lords exist and do things -- "mostly bad things" -- however, so she's not a complete maroon. I bet I could blow her mind with some of those Knights of the Nine quests or whatever, though. Come to think of it, there should be other little sidequests for Kynareth and other non-Daedric stuff around... At least that's what I remember.

The male beggars are funny because, depending on which option you pick, they change their voice. If you don't have a high disposition with them and ask about the Gray Fox, they do this old-timey English voice ("he's a fairy tale!"), but then they talk normally (the "Imperial voice") if you are qualified to learn about the Garden of Dareloth. There's one more they do, I think, too.

I think all beggars are Imperials, right? I haven't seen any of the other races, but then again, I haven't been looking too intently.

It is more for game immersion purposes than actual enjoyment of it. These things are so much worse than the stuff in Skyrim or other games. They do have mods that add additional voice and stuff though.

Anyways, I got all my issues fixed. I just uninstalled all the adult add ons and re-installed them. That somehow fixed everything.

I am pretty certain all the mods keep this same format but there are tons that make the leveling system in Oblivion less garbage. These are some of the most used ones:

I am using these two. Haven't tested them out as I haven't started fully playing yet.

Here is another one that comes highly recommended.

And you have this one that is a complete game overhaul. Only use it if you do not want to experience the game as intended by the developers though. This is one of the most beloved add ons.

I ran into a glitch that corrupted my main save, lol. I do have a backup, but since I'm stuck doing this damn vampirism cure quest (totally forgot I had porphyric haemophilia from clearing out Count Skingrad's dingy dump), I'm just gonna make a new character. A better character, with more magic, and more kickass qualities! Gonna make a High Elf mage with some good power (I want to Atronach, but maybe I'll just do the generic Mage one until I get a good staff) and major in all spell disciplines, plus some utility ones (armorer, lockpicking, etc.)

I enjoy playing grandpa/grandma charaters, fat characters, etc. No idea why, haha. The default faces can only be gussied up in a "lipstick on a pig" way, anyhow, so might as well have fun with it.

Doing the mage guild questlines now, trying to get a staff for myself. I got most of my magical fields up to LV50 by spamming it next to the bed in Fort Farragut, but Restoration'll undoubtedly lag behind...figures. I remembered that I can use the Staff of Corruption for fun shenanigans (duping still available?), so I'm going to get that after I do this Bravil stuff.

I find the silly graphics and lightbulb faces to be charming, so I never really wanted many mods besides the unofficial patch Bethesda games usually have.

I hate running around in the dark. Is there a 100% night eye mod that'll make everything brighter and not that ugly Khajiit eyes that makes everything blue?

Something similar to this Morrowind mod? https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/46274
